In the use oi my power take o'li device the vehicle with which it is to be connected is first jacked up or otherwise elevated sufficiently to the wheel thereof from which pow-er is to be derived out of engagement with the ground either the jack or other means employed for raising the vehicle, or any suitable support such as is indicated at 11 1 in Fig. 1, being employed to maintain said wheel in an elevated position. The e);- tension members 104, if not previously adjusted. then are adjusted relatively to their related spider arms. so that the apertures 106 therein will alinc with the lug bolts of the wheel. provided. of course. the wheel is of a type including lug bolts. The usual lug bolts nuts then are removed and said extension members enn'apjed over said lug bolts and the nuts again applied to secure the spider to the wheel, the cap member 86 having previously been connected with the spider ring 92 by means of bolts passed through alined apertures 94102 in said ring and the cap flange as is understood. The shaft 88 then is connected with the shaft 18 or other shaft to be operated thereby, whereupon rotation of the vehicle wheel will impart rotation to said shaft irrespective of whether said wheel and shaft are or are not axially alined as is obvious.
In some instances it may be possible to disconnect the cap member 86 from the spider member and connect the cap member directly with a vehicle wheel by bolts passed through the apertures 102 in the flange 100 of said cap member.
Furthermore, if desired, a pulley (not shown) may be mounted on the cap member 86 to establish a belt drive between a vehicle wheel and any desired article of machinery.
I claim 1.. A power take oil device for connecting an article of machinery with a drive wheel of a motor vehicle comprising a spider member, said spider member consisting of an apertured rinn', slotted arms radiating there from, a slotted arm extension member positioned against one face of each arm, a bolt connectin each arm with its related extension mem er, a T-shaped formation on the inner end of each extension member engageable with its related arm to assist said bolts in securing said extension members to their related arms, said extension members being apertured to receive bolts carried by the wheel from which power is to be derived, and means for establishing a driving connection between said spider member and a device to be driven by said wheel.
2. A power take off device for connecting an article of machinery with a drive wheel of a motor vehicle comprising a spider memher and a cap, said spider member including an apertured lin means for securing said ring to a wheel or a motor vehicle, a flange on said cap member having apertures adapted for alinement with the apertures in said ring, bolts adapted to be passed through said apertures to detachably connect said spider member and cap together, said cap when detached from said spider member being" adapted to have wheel carried bolts passed through the apertures on the flange thereof to connect said cap directly with a wheel, and a shaft having a ui'iiversal joint at each end thereof, one of which is connected with said cap and the other of which is adapted for connection with a shaft to be driven from a wheel with which said cap is connected.
