HENRI FBANQOIS LOUIS JOSEPH ROCHERON, OF LEVALLOIS-PERRET, FRANCE FAs'rENIN'G nnvrcl: Fon Doons Application/tiled July 10, 1930, Serial No. 467,108, andin France September 1I, 1929.
My invention relates to a fastening device for doors and 'other similar parts.
This device is chiefly intended to be used in connection withv the doors of automobile L bodies which are submitted to rapid deformations on account of the play between the diii'erent parts of the body.
My device comprises a lug and a socket member which are adapted to be mounted 10, opposite each other on the parts to be secured together respectively, for instance one of them on the door and the other on the door trame of an automobile body, so that, when the door is beingclosed, the lug engages the v socket member. in order, not to ensure the locking of the door, but to elastically attenuate the vertical vibrations of this door and thus to relieve the hinges.
My invention is characterized in that. on
the one hand. the socket member comprises as said wedge-shaped lug penetrates between' them. v
Owing to this disposition, the jaws of the socket member constantly hold the wedge between them from the time said wedge is being forced between them bytthe closing of the door. This door is thus elastically held in position, whatever be the play in its tit,
ting. It should be remarked that, owingto the fa ct that the jaws of the socket member are articulated to a fixed part of the socket member, the elastic organs exert a regular and constant pressurev on either side of the Wedge through said jaws, so as to always keep said wedge in their median plane.
An embodiment of my invention will be described with reference to the appended drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is au elevation of the socket member as mounted on the door frame of an automobile body;
Fig. 2 is an end ber;
Fig. 3 isa side View of said socket meinber;
Fig. 4 is a section of the socket member on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the back face of the wedge support, the wood of the door casing being partially cut away so as to show that piece.
-F ig. 6 is a side View corresponding to Fig. 5.
The socket member (Figs. 1 to 4) coinprises a casing l, closed by a plate 2 which is screwed thereon by means of screws 3. A
View of said socket memclip comprising two jaws 4 and 5, is mountedl in the middle part of the casing so that thi` interval between the jaws may register with an opening 6 (Figs. 3 and 4) provided -in plate 2 and casing 1. The jaws 4 and5 of the'clip are pivotally mounted on' an axis integral with a projecting part 8 of the casing. Said jaws each have a raised edge 9 to; ensuring a good hold on the wedge.
On opposite sides of jaws 4 and 5 are disposed two rubber blocks 10 enclosed between the walls of casing 1, plate 2 and the two jaws 4 and 5. These blocks, owing to their elasticity, will force the jaws toward each other, by causing them to pivot about their stationary axis 7.
A stop 11 (Figs. 1 and'4) integraly withjaw 5 and adapted to come into contact with jaw 4 maintains a minimum distance between said jaws. Holes 12 are provided in casing 1 and plate 2 so as to make it possible to secure the socket member to the doorframe of the alltomobile body or any other suitable structure.
lVedge 13 (Figs. 5 and 6) which is of a substantially triangular longitudinal section, is integral with a plate 14 provided with holes 15 for'securing it to the door.`
When the device is to `be mounted, the socket member being secured for instance to the door casing of the body, the wedge is so disposed on the door that, when said door is shut, the wedge, entering the opening 6 of the keeper, may slide longitudinally between jaws 4 and 5 of the clip, the tapering part 16 of the wedge being the first to come lnto contact with said jaws. As the wedge is being moved forward, the jaws are pushed apart in a symmetrical way owing to their being pivotally mounted on a fixed basis 7 and then compress the rubber blocks 10. The reaction of these blocks on the wedge 13, through the intermediary of articulated jaws 4 and 5, ensures the elastic securing of the door whatever be the play that may be present in the fitting of said door.
While I have disclosed what I deem to be the preferred form o'f my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be changes made in the construction disposition and form of the parts without departing from the spirit of my invention as comprehended with in the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device for the elastic fastenin of a door to its frame comprising a casing a apted to be fixed on one of the elements to be fastened together, an axis in said casing, two jaws pivotally mounted on said axis, elastic means for pushing said jaws toward each other, a plate adapted to be fixed on the other element, a wedge on lsaid plate for engaging the jaws mounted in the casing, whereby the two elements are elastically fastened together.
2. A device of the elastic fastening of a door to its frame comprising a casing adapted to be fixed on the frame, an axis in said casing,
`two jaws pivotally mounted on said axis,
elastic means for pushing said jaws toward each other, a plate 'adapted to be fixed on the door, a wedge on said plate adapted to be pushed between the jaws when the door is shut, whereby the door is elastically secured to the frame.
3. A device for the elastic fastenin of a door to its frame comprising a casing a apted to be fixed on the edge of the door-frame, an axis in said casin two jaws pivotally mounted on said axis and extending transversely with respect to the door-frame, rubber blocks inserted in said casing for pushing said jaws toward each other, a stop on one of said jaws adapted to come into contact with the other jaw so as to maintain a minimum space between said jaws, a plate ada ted to be fixed on the edge of the door, a we ge on said plate extendin transversely with respect to the door and Iocated at the level of the space between the jaws, so as to slidingly shut.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
