rim or ed ge flange 13. In the plane of the My invention relates to means for protecting the vents of containers holding inflamvision of a vent head having mable' liquids and has particular reference to a vent head applicable to the vent pipes of such containers.
An important object of the invention is the provision of a vent head provided with means for preventing the entrance of rain and dirt to the interior of the container with which it is associated and having alsomeans to check fire at the vent head.
Another object of the invention is the proa readil detachable screen element associated with the opening thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a vent head formed as a unitary casting and provided with a readily detachable screen covering the vent aperture.
With these and such objects in view as will be apparent from the descri tion, the inven tion resides in the combination. construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed and illustrated in accompanying drawings, in which:

In detail the invention comprises a casting in the form of acow shaped member having a neck 11 internally threaded for e 1 u cut over the upper end of a vent ipe and formed with a laterally extending 00d 12 which is enlarged with respect to the xfliamfir of the dnack 11. htod 12 orm with a nding ge ange which extends belo the upper end of the neck portion 11 as defined y its internal wall 14. a

The protective screen 17 is retained in place by the clamping engagement thereover of a frame -18 having the configuration of the shoulder 16 and provided'with a bridge portlon 19 adapted to overlie the web 15 of the casting. The frame is retained'in place by suitable means such as .a screw bolt 20 headed against the frame bridge 19 and embedded in the casting web.15. It is obvious that as the screw bolt 20 is advanced the frame 18' will be clamped against the screen rmly against its seat within the hood 12 and completely covering the vent aperture. J
It will be apparent by the construction/illustrated that the protective hood .12 revents the entry of rain or dirt to the nec 11 and by reason of its depending edge flange 13 the protective screen member 17 is positioned at one side of and beneath the top of the neck 11. The casting is so shaped that the secur ing' element 20 is readil accessible at all times for replacement 0 the screen whenever necessary. The screen'member 17 is retained in osition by a positive clamping means and dbes not depend upon frictiona engagement for retention. Due to the fact that the retaining frame 18 is positioned from the under side of the web 15 it is apparent may be made in such details as will fall'within the I claim: I

A vent headfcomprising a unitary castinghaving a neck adapted for threaded engagement over a vent pipe, a hood extending laterall from said neck and open from its under ace, a shoulder formed on the inner face of said hood above the bottom edge thereof, a screen seated against said shoulder, and screw means accessible from the under face of the hood forretaining said screen in service position.
10 2. A vent head comprising a unitary casting having a neck adapted for engagement over a vent pipe, a hood portion extending laterally from said neck portion and open at its bottom edge beneath the top of said neck portion, a shoulder in said bottom edge,
a screen positioned in and coverin the 0 en bottom of said hood, and means etacha bly engageable with said shoulder through said screen for clamping said screen in service 2 position.

A ventin closure for vapors arising from combusti 1e material, com rising a fitting having a downwardly extending opening provided with fastening means, and venting 2 through the downwardly facing opening, a screen removable downwardl from said venting opening, said opening being provided with an interior shoulder against which said screen abuts, and fastening means i holding said screen against said shoulder and permitting the ready removal of said screen.
