Description

,Nov. 10, 1931. c. c. HANSEN SHELL FOR ROCK DRILLS Filed Jan. 4. 1929 IN V EN TOR.
HIS A TTORNEY.
Between the flanges la is a fiat surface 12 upon which the inwardly extending legs 6 of the Z- bars are seated and to which said legs may be riveted.
In the modification illustratedin Figure 5, a pair of angle members r are arranged in parallelism and are secured to the cone 8 by means of rivets t, the cone shaving an extension a which extends between the angles 7* and around one edge thereof. In this modification as in the modifications shown in Figures 1 to 3, the guideways E of the shell are formed by plates F which are held in spaced relation with respect to the lateral legs 1; of the angles 7" by means of spacers Gr,
said plates F and spacers G being secured to the legs 4) by means of bolts H and nuts J.
I claim: 7 e
1. A shell for rock drills, comprising a pair of Z-bar members arranged in parallelism, wearing members secured to one leg of said Z-bar members and forming one side of guideways through which the guides of a rock drill areadapted to slide upon longitudinal ,movement of the drill, brackets interposed between the ends of said members and connected thereto to hold said members in spaced relation to accommodate the body of the rock drill, plates extending longitudinally of the members and adapted to form the other side of said guideways, and means for. holding the plates in spaced relation with respect to the members, said means being disposed between .7 the plates and the wearing members on said leg of the Z-bar member and engaging the guides of the rock drill to prevent lateral movement of the rock drill with respect to the shell.
2. A shell for rock drills, comprising a pair of Z-bar members arranged in parallelism, wearing members secured to one leg of said Z-bar members and forming one side of guideways through which the guides of a rock drill are adapted to slide upon longitudinal movement of the drill, brackets interposed between the ends of said members and connected thereto to hold said members in spaced movement of the rock drill with respect to the shell, and means connected to the other leg of the Z-bar members and to the web between said legs to prevent fiexion of said members.
In testimony whereof I have signed this CHARLES C. HANSEN.
