Another important object of the invention.
is to provide an egg case closure which will allow a reasonably wide range for adjustment. I
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a bottom plan view of the novel lid.
Figure 2 represents a top plan view of the novel lid structure.
Figure 3 represents a top plan view of the lid with the fastening means in operated position.
Figure 4 represents an end elevation of the box with the lid applied. 7
Figure 5 represents a side elevation of an egg case with the novel lid structure secured thereon.
Figure 6 represents a cross sectional view 35 taken substantially on line 6-6 of Figure 3. Figure 7 represents a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 7' 7 of Figure 3. Figure 8 represents'a cross sectional view 40 Figure 9 represents a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on line 9-9 of Fi ure 3.
igure 10 represents a perspective view of the abutment plate.
Figure 11 represents a perspective view of one of the movable latch bars.
Figure 12 represents a perspective view of one of the stationary latch bars."
Figure 13 represents a perspective view of one of the securing arms.

Figure represents a perspective view, of-thebolt. V
, Referring. to the drawings, wherein like numerals; designate like vparts, it will be seen that the detachable and-re-usuable lid -.is to be employed upon an egg case: of the type disclosed in the; drawings. This type of egg case includes the side walls 5 andend walls 6 and tothese end. walls at their upper edges are secured the horizontally disposed cleats 7. The vnovel lidibr closure includes a -rec' tangularwshaped iplate or board, 8," which Figure 14 represents aiperspective View i may be of metal or wood without departing o6 from the spirit and scope of this invention. 'Snugly surrounding the board 8' and adjacenteach :end thereof. isa strap 9, secured to the board in' the manner shown clearly in Figure 8,and securedthereto by bolts and nuts 10 and 11 respectively. p j s Disposed transversely upon the board 8 .and at the'intermediacy thereof is an abutment plate. 12 which isprovided with a short upstanding flange 13 at an interme- {(9 diate'point on one longitudinal. edge. A W
pair of stationary latch. bars '1414 each has one of its ends secured to one end of the-abutment plate 12 (see Figure 3) ;While its opposite end is bent downwardly as at 15 and inwardly aslatlfi'toprovide a hook, for engagement .overithe cleat 7 at one-end of the egg case Q,
stationary latch bars 1 4.14 adjacent theirfhooked ends is a bar ;1;Z for maintaining .the said latch bars properlyfspaced-apart. The'sebars 14-44 are galsogsecured tothe straps 9 as at.18.
Also disposed longitudinally on the board oftheselatclifbars'. 19 is pivotally connected. to the securing arm. 20 as at 21 and this securing arm 20 is pivotally connected to the abutment plate 12 at one end as at 22. The opposite end of this particular latch bar 19 is provided with a laterally disposed, portion 23 and an; inwardly disposed extremity 24 to provide a hook for engagement over the cleat 7 at the opposite end of the case. i
The other, latch bar 19 is'pivotally con- I nected atits inner end as at 25 to the secur- I ing arm 26 and this securing arm 26 is ivotally connected at one end to one en of the abutment plate 12 as at 27.
The free end of the arm 20 is provided with a rectangularly shaped loop 28, and a second and somewhat narrower loop 29 inwardly on the same arm, this construction being clearly shown in Figure 13. The arm 26 is provided with a single loop 30 at its free end and the loops28 and 30'can be moved against the flange 13 of the abutment plate 12 in the manner shown in Figure 3 and when the securing arms are inthis position (alined) the latch bars 19-19 are in re- 'tracted positions so as to engage the hooks at their freeends over the cheat 7 at that par-- ticular end of the egg case. V e
To prevent displacement of the latch ha rs 1919,upstanding pins are provided-on the corresponding strap 9 and project through i the obliquely disposed slots 31 in the said latch bars.
r "In order to secure the arms 20 and 26 in s alined relation, a bolt 32 is slidably disposed on the arm 20 so as to project through the loops 28 and 29. By projecting the bolt 32 toward the arm 26, the bolt maybe engaged through the loop 30 on the-arm 26, so that 3 these arms are'secured together, thus fastening the latch bars 1919 so that the lid 8 will remain snugly on the egg'case.
= The bolt 32-is bifurcated as at 33 and the portion between the furcations thereof is bent upwardly to provide a stop 34 engageable with the loop 29;
' While the foregoing specification sets 'it'o'rth the invention in detail-,it' is to be understood that numerous'changes in the shape, 7
s'i'z'eand materials may be resortedto without departing from the spirit and scope of the t "invention as claimed hereinafter.
Havingthus described the invention, what is claimedas new is': v V
A fastener comprising a plate, 'as-tationary hook member projecting "from the plate, 7 a pair of bars, each of said bars being provid- I I ed with a hook at one end, a pair of pivotal levers on the plate, one end ofea'c'h lever 'being secured to the end of one of the bars opposite from its hooked end, a slip connection between the remaining ends of the levers whereby-said levers can be secured against movement. .1 1 v g f 4 In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
