The invention relates to oil lamp fixtures of the hanging or bracket type, although certain features thereof may be usefully employed in other relations.

5 Heretofore', pendent lamp fixtures have been provided with rings of sufiicient size to receive the bowls of lamps, thus limiting the size and capacity of the bowls. This, therefore, an object of the present invention 10 to produce a lamp-supporting device in which the dimension of the supporting element 18 not determinative of the size-and capacity of a lamp bowl. 7

This object is attained by providing the l fixture with a lamp supporting base which encircles the lamp burner, as contradistinguished from a ring which receives the bowl oi the lamp. whereby standardization i bowls is not required and bowls of any desired 20 size and capacity may be employed. The burner and the lamp-supporting base are made separable to enable the lamp and its bowl to be removed from below the fixture, a manipulation which is much more conven- 35 ient than that which is required where the lamp bowl is supported in and has to be lifted from an encircling ring.

The invention herein disclosed is distinguished from other inventions in that, not iinly the bowl but the bowl, the burner and the chimney are removable as a unit, so that when the burner is removed from the supporting bracket it is still an operative device.

The invention comprehends other features 7 of construction which will hereinafter be described.

The pendent fixture shown in Figure 1 includes a crown 1, a base 2 and vertical rods 3 to which said crown and said base are unitedby screws 4, or other suitable means, it being desirable that the parts of the fixture be shipped unassembled and in compact relations, and also that the user be enabled to assemble said parts for service without the exercise of any particular nechanical' skill.

All of the parts of the fixture should be made from thin sheet metal to cheapen the cost of manufacture. The crown 1 may of course be omitted. The lower ends of the rods 3 extend downward through an inturned flange of the base 2'to which base theymay be secured by screws or other means.

The fixture also includes a shade-holding element 5 having screws 6 which engage the outwardlyextending flange of a pendent shade 7, and this shade-holding element is connected to the rods 3' by screws 8 that en gage certain of a series of holes 9 in said rods 3, whereby said shade-holding element may be sustained at different altitudes.

The base'ofthe lamp fixture may be provided with arms 10 for supporting the supplemental shade 11, and these arms may hose cured to said base by the same screws): which unite said base and the lower ends of the rods 3. 1'

The burner 12 of the lamp is, as usual, mounted on a bowl l3, and is itself provided with asupporting band i 1 1' having an inturned flange 15 that isprovided withnotches 16. The base 2 ofthe fixture is provided with lugs. 17 which are of slightly less width than said notches 16, whereby substantially a bayonet joint is formed to admit ofthe ready union and separation of the burner, the bowl andv the lamp chimney, and the supporting fixture.

The base 2 carries a weighted pawl 18, the

In assembling parts, said lamp burner 12 is thrust upward into the base 2, the lugs 17 being then in register with the notches 16 so that said lugs may pass through said notches. The burner 12 and the bowl 13 are then turned relatively to the base 2 to cause interlocking of the lugs 17 and the inturned flange 15 of said band 14:, the pawl 18 meantime having engaged a hole 20 to prevent the rotation of the lamp burner 12 and its bowl 13 relatively to said base 2, thereby preventing accidental or unintentional separation of said burner and said base.

The brackets shown in Figures 6 and 7 have a base 2 which may be identical with the base already described, but in this construction the base is provided with shadesupporting arms 10 which are the same as the shade-supporting arms 10 revealed in Figure 1 of the drawings.

The chimney 21 which, as already indicated, is removable with the bowl and the lamp burner, extends upward within the lamp fixture shown in Figure 1, and is encircled at its upper end by the crown 1 of said fixture.

The shade holding element 5 should be of sufficient diameter, relatively to the base 2 of the fixture, to admit of the use of a shade, such as 7, of suflicient size to pass downward around said base 2, whereby said shade may be freed from said fixture by a downward movement. The rods 3 terminate in a yoke 23 having a perforated sustaining lug 24.

The lamp employed may be of the blueflame type and possess the ordinary incandescing mantle 22.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. The combination with a pendent lamp fixture including a superstructure and a base that is provided with outwardly extending lugs, of a lamp having attached to its burner an external supporting band carrying an inturned notched flange with which said lugs engage.

2. The combination with a pendent lamp fixture including a superstructure and a base that is provided with outwardly extending lugs, of a lamp having attached to its burner a supporting band carrying an inturned notched flange with which said lugs engage, said flange being provided with a hole and said base carrying a dog for engaging said hole to hold said elements in their interlocked positions.

3. The combination with a pendent lamp fixture including a superstructure and a base that is provided with outwardly extending lugs, of a lamp having attached to its burner a supporting band carrying an inturned notched flange with which said lugs engage, said flange being provided with a hole and said base carrying a weighted dog for engaging said hole to hold said elemens in their interlocked positions.

4. The combination with a pendent lamp fixture including a superstructure and a base that is provided with outwardly extending lugs, of a lamp having attached to its burner a supporting band carrying an inturned notched flange with which said lugs engage, said flange being provided with a hole and said base carrying a dog pivoted to and extending upward through said base for engaging said holes to hold said elements in their interlocked positions.

5. A pendent lamp fixture including a yoke, a burner-supporting base, rods connecting said yoke and said base, and a shade support surrounding said rods, said rods having a series of holes and said shade support having screws which are adapted to en gage said holes as well as inwardly-projecting devices for engaging a shade.

6. A pendent lamp fixture including a base having an inturned flange provided with openings, supporting rods extending at their lower ends through said openings and secured to said base, and lugs extending outward from said base and adapted to engage an element of a lamp structure.
