This invention relates generally to certain new and useful improvements in daily plan books and is more particularly designed for the use of teachers in schools.
A primary object of my invention is to provide means for readily and visually indicating the subjects taught, the specific subject or subjects taught on certain days of the school week, and the particular branch of that specific subject being taught on that day.
A further object is to prevent the printing of each individual sheet.
A still further object is to provide means adapted to be used as a book mark.
Another object is to provide means for concealing confidential matter.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will be in part pointed out and in part be obvious from the description thereof to follow taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the improved book in' opened position with the flap in extended or opened position.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the flap in folded or closed position. Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the use of the flap as a book mark.
Figure 4 is an end view showing how the n p is folded.
Referring to the figures of the drawings in detail, the leaves 0f the cover are hinged or folded at the center as is usual and are adapted to hold sheets 11 of paper therebetween in the ordinary manner. The cover is made of card board or other suitable material having a relatively stiff body. The pages 11 are the same size substantially as the cover so that no portion of the page extends beyond the marginal edges of the cover. These pages are ruled vertically so as to provide vertical spaces 12. I have shown eight of these spaces but it will be understood that as many as desired may be provided. Above the column to the left of the page I have left a blank but above each of the other columns I have printed on the inside cover of the book the day of the week, thus I have shown a vertical column for each day of the week. A
series of horizontal lines intercept the vertical lines on the pages 11 forming horizontal columns 13 for a purpose which will presently be explained.
Hingedly mounted or folded on one of the marginal edges of the cover herein shown on the left hand edge and formed intergrally therewith is a flap The crease between the flap and the leaf 10 is so formed that the flap normally folds inwardly. This flap it will be noted is provided with a series'of horizontal lines on its upper surface when folded, which lines register with the horizontal lines on the leaves or pages 11. The horizontal columns 13 provided by these lines provide spaces for designating the subjects comprising the curriculum, such as, Arithmetic. The upper space contains the word Subjects to'indicate the various subjects appearing thereunder. The under surface of the flap is also similarly ruled horizontally which ruling registers with the ruling on the pages 11 as will be noted from Figure 2. These spaces are left blank in the drawings and it will be understood that other additional subjects may be inserted therein as desired.
' The furthest vertical column 12 to the left which is not designated may be used for inserting any remarks or data desired pertaining to the various subjects and is especially adapted for confidential data as the column can be concealed from view by the flap, which is substantially the width of the said column.
The flap, being formed of material relatively stiffer and therefore heavier than the pages 11 of the book, tends when folded to keep the pages down thereby acting as a weig t to prevent the pages from turning accidentally. Furthermore owing to its stiffness, it is readily insertable between the pages 11 and thus affords a ready book mark as will be understood.
The book is used as follows: In the vertical column opposite the particular subject is placed a sample of the branch of that sub ject taught on any particular day appearing at the top of the column. For example, in the Monday column. opposite the subject Arithmetic I have shown a sample of an ezraniple infractions, addition being the particular branch of fractions being taughton that particular day. In the Wednesday column, opposite the same subject I have shown asample of multiplication of fractions, that being the particular branch of the 7 subject being taught on that day. This will readily, and visually indicate to' a substitute or to the principalthat on Monday that par-* ticular branch of arithmetic is being taught, Land that on Wednesday multi lication of I H fractions is being taught. The same plan- I ning for the other subjects may be followed.
By reason of this novel arrangement of flap provided with a plurality of marked 01f horizontal -ali-nement with the, spaces on the Pages- In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.- EUGENE F. IRl/VIN.
and ruled pages, the principal and substitute Y can see at a glance the particular subjects I taught on a certain dayof the week thereby a avoiding confusion.
The printing on the cover of the bookand flap vportion eliminates printing'on the individual sheets, thereby saving considerable expenseand permitting the entire page "tob'e used for placing working data.
WVhile invention is illustratedand 'described as a daily plan book for teachers,it
will be understood'that my improved book could be adapted for use as a book forkeepmg the time of employees. This could beaccomplished by placing the namesof the employees on the flap and by placing the time of such employees in the daily vertical'columns.
Other usesfor my improved book -wiil readily suggest themselves;
without departing from the principle of the It will also be understood that various changes in details might be made therein invention, and Idesire therefore to-be-limited only by the state of the prior art and the-apwardly,- said flap'beingprovidedwith-a'plupended claims.
I I claim:
