Description

W. J. VINSON Oct. 27, 1931.
HAM HANGER Filed Feb. 21. 1950 Hal 72215071 Patented Oct, 27, 1931 UNITED, STATES WAYLAND mvmson, or ronrsmourmvrnerm I 1mm Hansen-1 j Y i Application filed February 21; 1930i seen No. 430,347;
by the hock of the ham is downwardly dis-' posed, this eliminating the liability of grease dripping.
It is also an object'of the invention to provide a device of this kind which supports a ham in a manner whereby air, smoke'or the like may circulate substantially entirely therearound.
rangement of the several parts of my improved ham hanger whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive andotherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may bethe better understood, I will now proceed todescribe the same with reference to they accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
As herein disclosed, my improved hanger comprises two side members 1 converging one toward the other with the divergent extremities connected by a cross member 2. The members 1 and 2 are preferably formed from a single length of strap metal andsuch material is suitably bent, as at 3, to provide the desired assembly or relation of the members 1 and 2. p f
In practice, the member 2 is at the upper portion of the device and said member 2 at its longitudinal center is provided with an upstanding arm 4 to provide a suspending The inventionconsists in the details of construction and in the combination and ar-.
means, said arm 4beii1g herein disclosed as provided with an opening5 to permit the arm 4tofbe readily engaged with a hook or other desired supporting member.
The lower or convergent extremities of the members 1 are tied or connected by a cross member 6 and are further connected by an outstanding loop member 7. The loop member 7 and the cross member 6 are substantially coplanar and the extremities of the cross -member 6 and loop member 7 are secured to the adjacent end portions of the members 1 by the common'fastening'members 8, such as rivets. The loop member 7 is adapted to snugly receive hock portion'9 of a ham H, as indicated by broken lines in Figure 2, while the central orupper enlarged portion of such ham is received within a second loop member 10, the extremities of which terminating in inwardly disposed feet 11 riveted or otherwise secured, as at 12, to the members 1 at a point preferably slightly above the longitudinal centers of the side members 1.
The lower or convergent extremities of the side members 1 are continued to form the rearwardly directed lugs or feet 14 which, when the device is suspended from a wall, as in a smoke house, assures the device together with the applied ham being spaced from such wall so that an effective circulation of smoke may be had around the ham to assure proper curing. This spacing of the device and ham from a wall or the like is also of advantage in connection with store display or the like as it assures free circulation around the ham.
' From the foregoing description it is thoughtto be obvious that a ham hanger constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the princi les and spirit thereof and for this reason do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
signature.
I claim:-
A ham hanger comprising spaced side members, means for connecting the opposite end portions of the side members to maintain the same in desired relation, supporting means carried by one end portion of the device, and outstanding loop members carried by the side members, one of said loop members being of a size to receive the hock of a ham and the other of a size to receive the upper portion of the ham, the extremities of the side members remote from the supporting means being provided with lugs disposed in a direction opposite to that of the loop members.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my WAYLAND .1. vnvson.
