Description

Oct, 2o, 1931. w G, GOQDWW 1,828,495
CASTING Filed sept. 1o, 1928 Patented Oct. 20, 1931 PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM G. GOODWIN, F ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN CASTING Application led September 10,1928. Serial No. 304,959.
; self particularly to the formation of engine cylinders, steam radiators, air compressors and other types of machinery in which heat is generated and in which a rapid radiation of the heat is desired. It is the object of the present invention to provide a casing of this class, so arranged and constructed, as to effect rapid radiation.
Itis another object of the present invention to provide a casting having a plurality of outwardly projecting heat conducting members mounting therein and preferably formed integral therein.
It is another object of the invention to provide a casting having formed integral therewith heat conducting parts formed from material of a thermal conductivity higher than the main body itself.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
TheA invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 1
The invention will be best understood from a reference to the accompanying drawings .which form a part of this speclfication and in which,
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of them with parts broken away and parts shown in section. i
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the radiator fin used in the invention.
.degree and an eiiicient operation of the engine assured.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction, I do not wish to limit rights to the precise det-ails of structure shown but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as come within thescOpe of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A casting of the class described, comprising: a main body having an inner and an outer surface, the outer surface being free from outwardly extending projections; a plurality of radiating members projecting outwardly from the outer surface of said main body and extending inwardly of said main body and terminating between the inner surface and the outer urface thereof, the portion of each of said members Within said casting being of greater volume in proportion to radial length relative to said casting than the portion exterior of said casting.
In testimony wnereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
WILLIAM G. GOODW'IN.
