The present invention relates to clamps and more particularly to clamps adapted to prevent turning of the handle of a brush or broom.

An object of this invention is to provide a clamp of this character which may be readily positioned on a brush handle or the like and which will prevent the handle from turning within the head of the brush. 30 Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and cheaply manufactured and which will not unduly increase the cost of manufacturing the brush.

A further object of this invention is to provide a clamp of this character which maybe constructed of a single piece of metal which may be cut out of a sheet of metal by stamping or the like.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 'designates a brush or broom head which is provided with a handle member 11 which may be threadably mounted in the head 10 in the conventional manner. The head 10 is preferably constructed of solid ma- 15 terial which is adapted to hold the bristles 12 thereon and may be constructed of wood or metal, and the handle 10 is preferably adapted to be mounted on the head in substantially the center thereof and inclined at an angle therefrom.

The above and various other objects and A clamping member generally designated as 13, which is preferably constructed of resilient materia-l, is adapted to be secured about the outer end portion of the handle 11. The clamping member 13 comprises an elongated resilient body portion 141 which is split along one side thereof and is provided with a pair of outstanding ears or arms 15 which are preferably mounted in spaced relation to each other. The ears 15 are provided with apertures 16, and the aperture of one end may be threaded for threadably receiving a securing bolt or member 17. The outer end portion of the clamping member 13 is preferably tapered as at 20. The outer end portion of the clamp 13 is provided with an outstanding annular member 18 which may be constructed integrally with the clamping member 13 by bending the metal so as to forni a substantially pin-like member 18 which is adapted to engage in an opening 19 in the head of the broom.

In the use of this device, the handle 11 may be threaded or otherwise mounted in the head of the broom 10, and the clamping member 13 positioned adjacent the outer end portion of the handle 11. The brush engaging member 18 may be inserted in the opening 19 and, if desired, the pin or engaging meinber 18 may be slightly tapered so as to firmly yengage the head of the broom 10 in the opening 19. The thumb screw or bolt 17 may then be tightened so as to draw the spaced ears 15 together, thus securely positioning the clamping member 13 upon the handle 11. It will thus be seen that with the use of this device, the handle 11 will be securely held on the head of the broom against turning movement.

It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
