Description

Oct 13, 1931. J. EGGERT 1,827,713 A MEANS FOR CHARGING CONCRETE MIXING OR TRANSPORTING VESSELS Filed June. 24, 1929 Bnnentor JOSEPH EGGERT Patented 13, 1931 umTans ATas PATENT oFFicE i I JOSEPH EGGEBT, OI COLUMBUS, OHIO ASSIGHOB TO THE JAEGEB MACHINE COMPANY,

. This invention relates to means for charging the mixing drum of a truck concrete mixer or conveyor. A truck concrete mixer or conveyor, as now used, is one in which the mixing or conveyor vessel is mounted on a motor driven truck. In some instances the vessel is charged with the materials to be mixed in transit or with the mixed materials to be conveyed at the, same endfrom which the materials are discharged. When the vessel is to be charged the truck with the vessel is backed up to a hopper, but the backing up is rarely accurate in the first instance for causing a connection of the spout of the hopper so that much time is lost in repeated backings, hence the object of the present invention is the provision of means whereby inaccuracy in backing up may be quickly compensated for. V
The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described, the features of novelty being finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the invention. 7
Fig. 2 is a view with parts in section from the line II-II Fig. 1;
In the views 5 designates the tapered charging and discharging end of the mixing drum,
mounted for said drum being in practice,
horizontal transportation and rotation on a axis on a truck (not shown),
6 designates the uprights of a tower having parallel horizontal tracks 7 thereon upon .1, which is supported by rollers 8 for transverse adjustment a rectangular frame 9.
The frame 9 carries projecting at its lower side a funnel 10. Hung by flexible weighted cables 11 passing over sheaves 12 on the frame 9 is a hopper 13 into the larger upper end of which the funnel 10 discharges. The weighted flexible cables nearly counterbalance the hopper 13 but so that it can be drawn down by means of a chain 14. 5 The discharge spout 13" of the hopper 13 ing drum, as described. The concrete mateisprovided exteriorly with a fixed circular tgack 15 upon which is mounted a coupling-- ring 16, said coupling-ring being provided -with grooved anti-friction rollers to retain the coupling-ring on said .track while permitting it to be turned easily in either direction by means of handles 17 The tapered end 15 of the mixing drum is I provided with several wedge-sha ed lugs 18 and the coupling-ringis provide with hooks 19 adapted to engage said lugs when the couplin -ring is brought into 'alinement with the rum end for that purpose. The said engagement is efiected by turning the couplingring clockwise as viewed from the line 11-11 n practice, when the mixin or transportingvessel is brought up to t e end of the spout of the hopper and the same do not adequately roughly aline the frame 9 is moved on its tracks in the proper, direction to secure such vertical alinement and then the'spout drawn down to secure such horizontal alinement. The flexibility of the weighted hopper suspending cables permits sufiicient universal movement of the hopper toward the chargin -discharging end of the mixing drum to e ect the engagement of the hooks of the coupling-ring 16 with the lugs 18 of the mixrials whether mixed or unmixed are supplied through chute 20.
When the mixing drum has been loaded with the materials the coupling-ring can be uncoupled and the truck driven awa The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim ise In means for supplying concrete materials to a mixing or transporting drum including a tower, a frame carrying a funnel, means supporting said frame in said tower for horizon- 4 tal movement, a hopper provided with a discharge spout into which hopper the funnel. 90
discharges, and weighted flexible nearly counterbalancin means for suspendi said hopper on said fiorizontally movable ame, said hopper-suspending means adapted to 5 permit universal movement of said hopper, a rotary coupling means on said dischar spout for communicatingly attaching the same to the mixing or transportin rum, said coupling means bemg detachab e from said-drum.
