Description

T. NOWELI..
WINnoW SCREENS.
Patented on'. s, 187s.
NPETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTONy D C.
No.18'Z,7-67.
UNITED 'STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TIMOTHY N OWELL, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 82.767, dated October 3, 1876; application led C July 20, 1876.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY NOWELL, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new Improvement in Extension Window and Door Screens, of which the following` is adescription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention 1s to construct a screen so as 4to make it adjustable to all widths of doors and windows, and, at the saine time, do away with cumbersome frames and the trouble of fitting, and to havea good, substantial screen, that can be removed and replaced at will; and my invention consists of two rollers provided with a pivot at one end, on which the roller may be revolved, Iand with a series of holes bored at different angles through the upper end, to receive screweyes to hold the rollers in position on the window-frame. The two rollers are united by any kind of screen required, all arranged and adapted to be operated as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
Figure l represents a view ot' a window, attached to which is my improved adjustable screen. Fig. 2 represents an edge view ofthe screen and rollers.
A A represent the window-frame; and the sill F is perforated with two holes, g g, in'which the pivots at the lower end of the rollers B B' operate. On the rollers B B' are secured the screen or gauze Ein any desired manner. The upper ends of the rollers B B' are perforated with a series of holes, O C', bored at different angles, in which are inserted the screw-eyes D D', as shown.
In setting up my improved screen, rst,
place one roller in position, and secure it to the sill F by means of its pin g, and further secure the roller to the window-casing by screw-eye D. Next, adjust the other roller with the proper width of screen uurolled, and secure it to the other side of the window-casing, as before described.
By this arrangement of adjustable screen I am enabled to fit all sizes of windows and doors, and do away with frames, Ste.; andthe screen can be readily released at one side, and rolled up and secured to the other side of the window or door, when required.
What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is l l. The roller B B', pivoted to the sill F at g, and provided with holes C C to receive the screw-eyes D D', in the manner and for the purposes set forth and described.
2. In combination, the rollers B B', screen E, pins g, and screw-eyes D D', arranged and adapted to be used in windows or doors, as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
TIMOTHY NOWELL.
