ment of the bracelet to the wrist by rovids ing an end section which isattach to one bracelet section end and which has a a plurality of transverse corrugations adapt- Our present'invention relates to fastening devices for watch stra s ticularl pertains to the t pe which includes a folda le extension mem er attached to one justable element attached to the other bracelet section end; -v
The essential objects of our invention are to provide an extension member which has a pluralit of folding sections adapted to be releasab y locked together, to provide'an effective and readil adjustable construction for securing the esired length of bracelet, and to form the fastening device so as to be readily adapted to the present form ofopen link bracelets.
With these and other objects and advantageous features in view, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of 'parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description followmg, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the fastening-- device in closed position and forming part of an open link bracelet:
Fi 2 is a view similar to Figure l but showmg the fastening device in extended-position; v
Fig. 3 is a view,similar to Figure 2, partly in section, the base of'the cover bemg exposed to show the adjustable-relationship ofthe arts; I
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1;
Fi v5 is a perspective view of the adjusta le end section of the fastening device;
and Fig. 6
' section of the fastening device.
It has been found desirable to provide a fastening device'for an o n link bracelet which has a lurality of oldable sections,
or bracelets and parlink v bracelets is a perspective view of the other end Y As shown in ed to releasably receive a manually operable clamp gripping jaw in the part ofthe --fastening device secured to the other brace let section. Also, in order to facilitate the attachment of the fastening device to open both endsof the fastening device have been provided with integral sleeve portions which are adapted to'pivotally engage the side posts of the contiguous open links of the bracelet sections; and the following is a detailed description of a pre ferred construction of fastening device which embodies the desirable features of our invention as outlined above.
Referring to the drawings, the bracelet or watch strap 10 includes a plurality of open links 11 having the usual side posts 12 which are hingedly connected together by connect ing sleeves 13. An extension device .14 is shown inclosed position in Figure 1, and in- I eludes a-cover 15 to,which are hingedly connected sections 16, 17, 18 and 19, these latter sections being hinged together and foldable within the cover section between the side walls-20 thereof as indicated in Figure 4.
An end section 21 is 'adjlustably secured \to the cover section, as shown in Figure 5, and
has a pluralitp1 of corrugations 22 extending transversely t ereof, these corrugations being adapted to releasably receive the gripping jaw 23 of a clamp lever 24 which is pivotally mounted as at 25 in the side walls 20 of the cover. The use of a plurality of closely spaced transverse corrugations or'equivalent grooves affords an extremely simple ad-' -justme nt for exactly fitting the wrist of the wearer.
Figures 2, 3nd .6,'the end section 19 is provided with a latch member 26 which is preferably formed by striking-up a porton of the stock and rolling it as indicated in Figure'6, and the section 16 which f 'is hinged to the cover is provided with an justment of the lengt tegral sleeve portion, as shownin Figuresjfi and 6, this s eeve portion being desi ated as 31 for the end section 21 and as 32 or the end section 19. These inte al sleeves are ada ted to encircle the contiguous osts 12 of t he'adjacent open links 11, as s own in Figure 4, thus affording a sim lo and effective means for attaching the astenmg deviceto the bracelet sections. The attaching I sleeves may be of any desired width so as to enable the fastening device to be fitted to difl'erent styles and types of open link brace: lets.
The end s ction 21 is preferably'made as 10 as possible to provide ample adjustment, and? is therefore provided with a central 0 ening or slot 33 so as not to interfere with t e proper engagement of the cooperating latch and catch members 26 and 28. A
The end section 19, which is the closing member of the fastening device, may be rectangular like the intermediate sections, or may be. formed as indicated in Figure 6, to impart a decorative touch.
Our'improved fastening device is simple to manufacture and to assemble, is sturdy in construction, permits nick and accurate adof the bracelet or watch strap, is easily secured to any open link type bracelet, and is releasably locked in folded position without using a latch memher or the like secured to the cover.
While We have described certain construction forms which embodythe principles of our invention, it is obvious that desired changes in arrangement, in outline, and in dimensions, maybe made without departing from the spirit and the S00 of the invention as defined in the appen ed claims.
We claim: 3 I
