,My in'i-proved nozzle burner comprises an outer'nozz'le wall 15 (Fig. 2);"and an inner tubular nozzle member 16 formedwithan,
s the burner may I elevation,- showingthe burner asabove said lower end portion 17 is much smaller in exterior diameter than said end portion, and is provided with a wide annular wall 25 near the upper end of slightly greater diameter than the intermediate and upper part of said face, to provide upper and lower fuel 26 and 2'? and an upper fuel mixture space. Said. annular wall 25 is provided with a series of diagonal passage slots 28 6 and 7) disposed therearound, all inclined in the same direction around the walh to give a twisting motion to fuel passing from said lower space 27 to the upper space 26;
The outer tubular nozzle wall 15 is received on said. inner member 16 against said enlarged portion 17, the lower part of its inner face having threaded connection with the threads 30 of the inner member. The upper portion of said inner face is cylindrical and has substantially fuel-tight engagement with said annular wall 25. The upper face 31 of said nozzle wall is upwardly and outwardly beveled to lie in the same conical surface with the upper face 20 of the inner nozzle member. and is slightly spaced therefrom to form a thin annular jetorifice 38 communicating with said upper space 26 The intermediate part of said outer wall 15 is provided with a lateral fuel inlet opening 35 communicating with said lower space 27 and receiving the upper threaded end of a fuel supply elbow 36 having exterior'threads at its outer end 37 for connection with a pipe. or hose (not shown) to a low down tank or other fuel supply.
A spreader screw 40 having a lower threaded shank 4L1 adjustably disposed in said central opening 22 has its head provided with a lower conical face 42 parallel with said beveled faces and an upper transverse tool-receiving slot 43 for adjustment. Said head has substantially the same diameter as the outside diameter of the inner tubular member 16 and said conical face 42.n1ay be adjusted close to said beveled face 20 to direct com arcssed air from the inner nozzle member across said jet orifice to draw fuel up through said elbow-36, lower space 21 passage slots upper space EZGand jet orifice 33, mix it with the air and dischargethe mire ture in an outwardly and upwardly flared stream indicated bythe arrows 3 t 51 .to feed the flame.
widely flaring and rected than in Fig. 5, and a flame of smaller Said spreader head is adjustable to vary the effective. heating area of the flame, and when adjusted close to the beveled face 20, causes a thin, stiff, widely flaring stream, as indicated by the arrows of Fig. 5 producing a very wide flame of large heating area. Said head, when adjusted further fromthe face 20, as in Fig. 4, gives a stream less stiff, less more upwardly diheating. area. When said head is adjusted still further from the face 20, it gives a stream. still less stiff. less widely flaring and more upwardly directed, as indicated in Fig. 8., and a flame of still smaller heating area.
