body near the tp.and a bead 8 is formed on Y My invention relates to shakers and more particularly to combination salt and e per shakers; and the object is to provide slia ers which are particularly adapted for use in traveling in automobiles or other vehicles and for use in fishing and hunting parties and armyservices and which can be carried in One advantage is that salt and pepper can be carried and kept dry and ready for use and only one device is necessary for both salt and pepper. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompan 'ng drawings which form a part of this app ica-- tion. 1
' Fig. 1 is a side elevation ofthe shaker assembled.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the inner cap.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the shaker.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the inner cap partly in section.
' Similar characters of reference are used to indicate .the same parts throughout the. several views.
This shaker has a body 1 which is hollow so and preferably cylindrical. The body 1 is 85 One advantage of this construction is t at 4 the flange will conform itself to the wall of the inner cover 3 at the top and conformto the socket 4 in the bottom of the shaker. The flange on the partition strengthens the partition; The shaker is provided with an 4'5 6 in the skirt of the cap for receiving the upper edge of the partition 2 for holding the artition in place. The partition 1s thus held 1n place both at the top and at the bottom. .The shaker is provided with an outer cap. 7.
A groove is formed in the outer face of the the upper edge. The outer ca 7 is secured to the body by crimping the e go of the cap about the head 8.
The cap 3 has two openings 9 and 10 for use in filling and discharging salt and pepper. The cap 7 has one opening 11 for filling and discharging purposesand has a plurality of perforations 12 for discharging salt and pepper. The outer cap 7 is rotatable on the bead 8. The inner cap 3 is non-rotatable on account of the partition 2 which is held against rotation by its projection into the socket 4 in the bottom of the body 1 and the grooves 13 in the vertical walls of the body 1. All the openings into the body'or the compartments thereof may be closed at the same time simply by rotating the outer cap on the head 8 until the outer cap comes to the position shown in Fig. 4. The openings 9 and 10 are shown in dotted outline in Fig. 4, Neither the opening 11 nor the perforations 12 register with the openings 9 or 10. The cap 7 may be rotated to bring the opening 11 to register with the opening 9 of,the inner cap to fill with salt and can be rotated to bring the opening 11 to register with the opening .10 to fill-with pepper. For serving salt, the cap 7- can be rotated to bring the per- For serving pep er, the cap 7 can be rotated to make the per orations 12 register with the opening 10. The outer cap 7 is rotatable and non-detachable.
What I claim,is,
A combination salt and pepper shaker comprising a hollow body having vertical grooves in the vertical walls thereof at diametrically opposite points and a socket groove in the bottom, a partition vertically disposed in" said body and occupying said grooves, an inner cap having a skirt projected within said body and having cut-outs in said skirt to receive the upper corners of said partition and having openings for receiving and disforations 12 to register with the opening 9.1 9
with either one of the openings in said inner ca and having a plurality of perforations a opted to register with either one of the openings in said inner ca and; said outer 1 5 cap i @dapted to close" 0th of saidv W ings in t e inner cap.
In testimony whereof, I set my han, this 12th day of September, 1930.
