This invention relates to a razor' and specifcally, a safetyr'azor'incorporating functionally and structurally improved features.

It is an object of the invention to furnish B a device of this character, the parts of which `will be relatively fe'w in number and individually simple and rugged in construction,

V- these parts being capable of being manufactured andy assembled readily so that a razor may be produced which will sell at a rela- ,tively nominal figure and which will give satisfactory service free from any-mechanical difficulties.

A further object of the invention is .that of v constructing a razor in which the guard may be somewhat permanently associated ywith the blade so that the-dangerof a person cutting themselves will be reduced toa minii mum. Y

lA still further object is that of. furnishing .such an article in which the position of the v blade maybe adjusted readily in order that the razor may be used advantageously in connection with different types of beards.

With these and additional objects in mind, reference is had to the annexed specification and attacheddrawings, which latter present one Vpractical embodiment of the invention and in which Figures 1 and 2 are bottom plan and side views respectively Yof a razor and showing the parts thereof in one position;

Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views showing the parts in a second position;

40. In these views the numeral 150 indicates the stem which .provides the razor handle and the exterior surface o f which may be knurled in order that a firm grip may be assured. The outer end of this stem terminates, as in Fig. 7, in a -screw-threaded extension 11 having a taperedor convexed outer portion 12, the purposeI of which will be hereinafter brought out. Also, preferably adjacent the base of the extension 11 the lstem may 5 have a` spaced, concentrically disposed flange 13, the edge of which extends into a plane preferably beyond the inner end of the screw thread.

A blade is employed which may conveniently include a body 14 having a cutting edge 15 and being formed with two main openings 16-17 and an additional perforation or indentation 18 if the latter isnecessary. A

guard and blade-holder is provided preferably by employing sheet met-al which is stamped or otherwise suitably formed to furnish an element U-shaped in cross-section,

having one of its 'outer edges terminating in a comb 19 and the arms of said element being formed with aligned pairs of perforations I20-21. A slot 22 may also be formed in one of thel arms of this element, which slot,

when the blade is position within theA the distance between the former pair of openings is less than between the latter pair. Ac- 8 cordingly, the user of this device desiring, for example, a close shave, inserts the rounded or tapered end portion ofthe extension 11 within the opening 20. If the blade is, at that time, in theposition shown in Fig. l, it willbe obvious that this action will cause the blade to be projected and a rotation of the stem handle with respect to the guard will cause the threads of the extension to gripl the guard element and clamp the same as in Fig. 4, in which all parts 'are held against relativemovement. If, on the other hand, it is ldesired to not resort to a close shavethe extension of the handle is introduced through the rear opening of the handle 21, resulting in a camming action between the blade and extension of the stem and a retraction of the former within the holder, as has been shown in Figs. 1 and 2..

From the foregoing it will, be apparent that, among others, the several objects specifically aforementioned are achieved. It is to be noted, however, that numerous changes in construction and rearrangement of the parts might be resortedto without in the slightest departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. A razor including a guard formed with a plurality of openin s, a blade associated with said guard and ormed with openings offset with respect `to said guard openings and means for introduction into one of said guard openings to align the same with a blade opening to shift said blade with respect to said guard. i

2. A razor including a guard formed with a plurality of openin s, a blade associated with said guard and ormed with openings offset with respect to said guard openings, a handle member andmeans. associated with said member for insertion into one of said group of openings to shift .said blade with respect to said guard.

3. A razor including a guard formed with a plurality of openin s, ablade associated with said' guard and4 ormed With openings offset with respect. to said first' named openings, a handle and a vprojection at the end of said handle and formed with cam surface to engagethe edges of said openings and ito align one group ofthe same to positively shia Said blade with respect to said guard.

A razor including a guard formed with a plurality of openin s, a blade associated with said guard and ormed with openings offset With respect to said first named openin s, a handle and a projection at the end of s`a1d handle and formed with a cam surface to engage the edges of said openings'and to align one group of the same to positively shift said bladewith respect lto said guard, and means associated with said handle to bear inwardly against said guard and tend t0 distort the same into clamping contact with said blade.

A razor including a guard formed with openings, a bladeassociated with said guard and formed with openings of a diameter greater than said guard openings, such blade openings being .offset with respect to said guard openings, a handle, a screw-threaded extension forming .a part of the same, the exterior circumference of said threads being substantially equa-1 to the circumference of the blade openings and the circumference of the base of said threads being substantially equal to the circumference of the guard openings, Whereby, upon said extension being inserted through`one of said guard openlngs the blade opening adjacent the same will be brought to extend concentrically with respect lto the guard openings and said blade will be set'receiving said extension whereby to auto- Y maticallyshift said blade within said holder upon the extension of said handle being applied to the different openings thereof.
