IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-CARDS FOR BUTTONS AND LIKE ARTICLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 82.604, dated September 26, 1876; application filed July 31, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES A. RIGHTER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement 'in Mode of Putting Up Buttons for Market,

other small articles, which will enable the retailer to detach and sell a dozen articles without cutting the card or cutting the thread that secures them to the card, and which will also enable him to conveniently attach an assortment of articles to the same card.

The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.

A isthe card, which is designed to be made large enough to hold a gross of buttons. The card A is made double, or of two thicknesses, glued or pasted together in the middle, and connected at the edges by a paper binding, to give a finish to the card. In the upper thickness or plyof the card A are formed slits a', to receive the ends of the small cards B, to which the buttons C are sewed in the usual way. The edges ofthe upper thickness in which the slits a' are made are strengthened by strips of cloth, to prevent the said slits from tearing out and to form pockets to receive the ends of the cards B. The cards B are represented as being made pointed, so that the angles may be slipped into the slits or pockets a of the card A. The cards B may be made rectangular, and with tongues formed upon or attached to their ends to be slipped into the slits or pockets a. The whole outer surface of. the cards B may be covered with foil, or the parts that are slipped into the slits or pockets a may be uncovered.

By this construction the cards B, each of which is designed to contain a dozen buttons, can be attached to and detached from the vcard A as desired, and without injuring either of said cards or loosening any of the buttons.

The invention has been described as being applied to buttons; but it may also be applied to pens, hooks and eyes, and other small articles.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The cards A, made of two` folds stuck together in the middle, connected at the edges, slitted at a', and provided with pockets to receive the points of cards B, all substantially as shown and described.
