It is still another objectto provide an apparatus in which aY coin will serve to connect the operating apparatus with the dispensing apparatus after which the coin is deposited in its receptacle and the apparatus continues to operate for dispensing the liquid, such apparatus being associated with the mechanism to prevent dispensing more than a predetermined amount ot liquid for a given'payment.
This application is a division of my copending application, Serial No.372,246, filed June 20, 1929.

This base reservoir 1 has a laterally extending base plate 6 for supporting a coin box which is bolted bythe transverse bolt 8 to the pump housing 9, which is mounted .on the top of the reservoir 1 by any suitable attaching mechanism, suchfas the screws 10.
Mounted on the upper side of the pump housing 9 and forming a closure inthe top ot the coin box 7 is the operating mechanismv casing 11 attached to the pump housing casing 9 by the screws 12. Y Thus the apparatus is assembled in four units; a reservoir and coin box support unit; a coin box;l apump housing carrying the pump mechanism; and the operating mechanism casing.
Operating mechanism This mechanism is operated by the handle 13 which is pinned by the pin 14 to a shaft 15 that is journaled in the detachable end 16 ofthe barrel-shaped operating mechanismL casing 11. This detachableend 16 is connected to the barrel of the casing by the screw bolts 17. The shaft 15 is expanded within the casing 11 into a hollow barrel of three different dimensions. The barrel-of the rfi-fst and smallest dimensionsis designated 1S.V
It carries around it the return spring 19 one end of which is attached to the barrel 18 by the set screw 20 and the other end is inserted within an aperture inv the detachable end plate 16, at 21. The set screw 20 serves to hold in position the rotatable coin cylinder 22, hereinafter described. The second diameter of the barrel mounted on the shaft 15 is that portion receiving the coin andfis designated 23, having a slot therethrough designatedat the top as 24 andat the bottom a larger slot designated 25. These slots are adapted to be in alignment with the slot of the sleeve 27 which surrounds the barrel 2S when the parts are in the initial, at-rest positicm. Slots 24, and 26 are also in alignment with the coin slot 28 of the barrel 11 forming the operating mechanism housing.
The third dimension of the barrel of which two parts Nos. 18 and 23 have already been described, is the barrel portion designated 29, the end of which abuts against the pump operating sleeve 30. This sleeve carries a projecting pin 31 and roller 32 which engages with the transverse member Si on the head of the pump plunger 35.
Returning to the sleeve 18, it Will be noted that the set screw 20 has a` projection 36 cxtending into a groove 3T of a cylinder member 38 which is located Within the barrel 18. This member 38 has an intermediate barrel portion 39which is connected to the other en'd of the coin cylinder barrel portion 22: lt has a slot 40 therethrough aligned with the other slots when in an fit-rest position. It carries locking pin 41 and is provided with a cut away cam surface 42. The pin 41 and the cam surface 42 are adapted to cooperate with the spring pressed pawl 43, which pivoted at 44 upon the barrel sleeve 2) and is held in outward position bythe spring 45. It werks in a slot 46 in the sleeve 23 transversely of the rotation of the several parts consisting of the concentric sleeves.
This pawl 43 normally extends through a slot 47 in the sleeve 27. The heel of this pawl is engaged by the cam surface 48 of me sleeve 27. This sleeve 27 is provided with a siot 49 which registers with a coin deposit slot 50 in the casing barrel 11. The slots 25 and 40 are adapted also to register with these deposit slots 49 and 50 during the depositing operating, as will be hereinafter described.
The barrel of the coin cylinder 22 is cr;- tended into a shaft 51 to which is pinned by the pin 52 the pump operating.r sleeve 30. To this sleeve 30 is connected a spring 58, the other end of which is connected to the barrel 22 so that the pump operating sleeve is re-vk turned to its initial position when the brake mechanism hereinafter described is released.v
Brake mechanism This brake mechanism consists of a V- shaped groove 54 formed Vin the exterior of the pump Operating sleeve 30. The groove is engaged with a correspondingly shaped arcuate brake member which is rotatably mounted upon the spindle 56 carried on the casing 11. It is provided with a spring 57 normally maintaining it in operativeenaging position, one end of the spring heing connected to the payvl 58 and the other end to the brake member The paivl 58 is provided with a nose 59 which is engaged by the cam 6() which serves to disengage the lockV at the end of the return stroke of the handle 13 and permits the spring 53 to return the pump operating sleeve 30 to its initial position.

Thus the handle 13 rotates the operating cylinder 23 which is connected by the coin 01 to the coin cylinder 22 which in turn is connected to the pump operating sleeve 30. Then there is provided the following parts a handle operating cylinder; a'coin cylinder adapted to be attached to the operating cylinder by a coin; a pawl connection between said cylinders maintained in posit-ion by a sleeve Within the cylindrical casing; and a pump operating sleeve with brake mechanism to prevent thebackivard movement of the parts.
In the sequence of operations the operating cylinder is first moved by the handle 13 after the coin has been deposited, the coin is then released and deposited and thereafter begins the ejection of fluid having already recorded the stroke on a counting mechanism as will be hereinafter described.
The handle 13 is prevented from moving too far backwardly by the stop 91.
The handle is prevented from moving forwardly prior to the insertion of the coin 61 by the engagement of the nose ofthe pawl 43 with the locking pin 41. Upon the insertion of the coin, the coin cylinder 39 can turn a short distance due to the enlargement of slot 25 in the sleeve 23 so as to get the pin 41 beneath the hook of the pawl 43. Thus'the instant the coin is inserted and the handle starts to move the locking pin 41 is removed and the apparatus can start to operate.
Pump mechanism The pump mechanism is carried entirely by the pump casing 9. It consists of reciproeating pump plunger 35 that is guided within the sleeve 62. The plunger is provided with a groove 63 in which works a pin 64 which limits the travel of the plunger 35.
Its upward movement is further limited by the stop 65.
This plunger 35 is guided by the stop 65 within a sleeve 66. This sleeve is formed on the upper end of piston 67 that travels in the cylinder 68 located within the fluid. The connection between the piston rod 35, known as the plunger, and the piston 67 is a broken connectionin that a spring 69 is interposed therebetween permitting relative movement downwardly of the plunger 35 before its end engages the top of the piston 67 for moving the piston down a predetermined distance.
This movement of the piston is resisted by the spring 70 within the cylinder 68. The cylinder is provided with an inlet port 7l controlled by the ball check 72 and an outlet port 73 controlled by the ball check 74 which is seated by the spring 75. The outlet port communicates with the discharge pipe 76 and i-s adapted to discharge into the swinging return pipe 77 that is adapted to take the drip. rllhis pipe is pushed outside against the spring tension 78 when the operator places his receptacle to be filled beneath the spout of pipe 76.
Upon the release of the handle it returns to its initial position as described which permits the spring 70 and the spring 69 to respectively return the piston 67 and the plunger piston rod 35 to the initial positions.

' AV counter 7 9' is mounted on the casing as at 80. The counter arm 81 is controlled by thel rocker arm 82 pivoted at 83. This arm 7d 82 terminates in a stop 84 against which rests the lower end of a pivoted catch 85 which is pivoted on the arm at 86. The projecting lug 87 on the plunger 35 has a lower round surface 88. As the plunger moves downi5 wardly it engages with the laterally projecting shoulder on the swingingmember 85 which causes the swinging member 85 to engage the stop 84 thereby actuating the lever 82 and the counter 79. Due to the arcuate movement laterally of the members 89 and 85 traveling with the lever 82 the stop 89 passes by one side of the stop 87 slipping oft' at the curved surface 88 so that the counter mechanism can return on the influence of the spring 90 to its initial position while the pump operation is completed.
Thus there is the sequence of operation of inserting the coin, moving the handle, depositing the coin, recording the transaction and ejecting the fluid.
It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention and within the scope of my claims such modifications as may be fairly comprehended within such claims and invention due to necessary modifications to adapt my invention to varying conditions of use and to varying purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, l what I claim as new and desire to secure by 100 Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination, a reservoir base, a coin box mounted thereon, a pump casing mounted on said base and holding said coin receptacle in locked position on the base and operating mechanism casing mounted on said pump casing. f
2. In combination, a reservoir base, a coin boX mounted thereon, a pump casing mounted on said base and holding said coin recepl110 tacle in locked position on the base, operating mechanism casing mounted on said pump casing and means mounted on said pump casing for returning pumped liquid to said reservoir in the base.
3. In combination, a reservoir base, a coin box mounted thereon, a pump casing mounted on said base and holding said coin receptacle in locked position on the base, operating mechanism casing mounted on said pump 120 casing, said operating mechanism casing and mechanism therein having slots therethrough over the open end of said coin receptacle, said operating mechanism casing being adapted to close said open end of the coin 125 receptacle, whereby a coin inserted in said operating mechanism casing may be used for operative purposes and then deposited in the coin receptacle. e

In combination, a reservoir base, a c0in'130 box mounted thereon, a ump casingmounted on said base and holding said com recep bucle in locked position on `the base, operating mechanism casing mounted `on said pump casing, said operating mechanism c and mechanism therein `having slots erethrough over the open end of said coin receptaele,sa1id operating mechanism casing being adapted to close said open end of the coin receptwcle, whereby a coin inserted in said operating mechanism casino rmay be used for operative purposes andD then deposited in the ooin receptacle, and means in said operating casing for maintaining access to said coin receptacle closed until a proper coin shall have been deposited.
