' My invention relates to lamps which eniploy lamp receiving sockets andholdersfor the sockets. The invention is of particular importance where such a lamp is equipped with a concave reflector which carries the holder whose bore is in register with anopening provided through the reflector. I The invention has for its general object the provision of means whereby the lamp may be fixed with respect to vsaid holder and, wherethe lamp is equipped with a reflector, may be fixed with respect to the latter element, also. The invention finds particular use in connection with lamps having parabolic reflectors 1 and enables the fixed relationshipof the lamp filament with respect to the parabolic axis on which the filament is preferably located. A
lamp thus constructed will direct light in a fixed path withrespect to the axis of the re- 2 flector, thereby avoiding difiiculty now frequently encounteredinthe adaptation. of re fleeting lampsto automotive vehicles, bodily or other adjustment of the lamps having frequently been required when the users happen to find that the light is improperlydirected.
- In my copending application Serial .No. 403,613 filed October 30, 1929, I have broadly claimed a lampreceiving socket within'a holder andsmallerin cross section than the holder, and means pressing the socket laterally against one side of the holder. The structure disclosed in the aforesaid copendwith respect to whichthe socket holder is g fixed, the bore of the socket holder being in with an opening that is formed the reflector to permit of theinserofan incandescent, lamp.
register through tion of the base The structure of the aforesaid application is 40 also inclusive ofspaced apart spacing means intervening between the holder'and socket in the place at which the socket is pressed I tatively, The lamp socket,-in the structure against the holder. j The structure of my aforesaid copending application is inclusive of a spring, integrally formed with a holder, whichpresses laterally upon the lamp base and, through theinterr,
mediation of the lamp base, laterally upon the socket. In the structure of my present invention I employ a; spring-which is sepathe lamp base through which base the lateral or application employs a concave reflector rately formed from the holder. This spring is preferably a coiledv s ring and passes through a lateral slot to e ect pressure upon the lamp socket and, preferably also, upon pressure is exerted upon the socket, whereby all of these elements aremaintained infixed relation. 7
In. my. copending application Serial No. 401,721 filed October =23, 1929, I have dis-- 6O closed a socket holder having a cam form'ation positioned to be engaged bya pin or projection that is provided upon the socket, when the assemblyof the holder and socketis being effected, to increase the spacing between.
i the socket and holder in the region of the pro jection, so that the projection may be brought intorregister withv a lateral opening, inthe socket, that is to receive the projection. In
' the device of the latter copending applica- To tlon the widening of the spacing between the holder and socket is effected by shifting the 'socket laterally of the holder. In the device of my present application the portion of the holder having the opening is also a spring .75
and is also provided with a camming formation ,engageable by the projection uponthe socket, the spring being laterally flexed by the projection when being directed to the opening in the spring. 7 v
I If the holder be associated with a reflector, the position of the lamp filament with respect to the reflector is assured, it being understood that the lamp filaments of the incandescent lamps which are to be used in the structure.
of my invention preferably occupy predeter mined uniform positions with respect to the lamp bases. To further assure the precise positions of the lamps, I desirably provide V- shaped seats in the bayonet slots that receive the bayonet pins upon the lamps, so that the lampsare brought to auniform position roof my invention, is preferably prevented from having any longitudinal .adjustment,,so

The lamp illustrated includes a housing or back element 1 having a bracket 2 on its bot tom side by which it may be assembled with the .automotive vehicle or other support, as
indicated. The housing or back 1 encloses a parabolic reflector 3 which is formedwith a grooved flange 4 at its forward end. This 'flange is pressed against a rim 5, provided upon the housing, by an assembling ring 6. This assembling ring also presses the light transmitting. closure 7 ,"usually of glass, 30

V i i The generally cylindrical socket holder 9 has its forward end passed through a circular opening formed through the crown of the reflector, in the embodiment of the invention shown. The forward end of the holder which the surrounding edge portion of the reflector is clamped, whereby the holder and reflector are maintained coaxial, in the structure illustrated.
The generally cylindrical lamp socket 12 is V held .in'assembly with and within the holder 9 of the bayonet slot by any suitable means,,
the V-shaped seat holding the lamp from rotative movement. The; means illustrated is inclusive ofa coiled spring .16 which sur- 'rounds a plunger 17 constituting a circuit terminal and presses forwardly upon the plunger head'18 and rearwardly upon the, flange 19 of a metallic guiding sleeve 20..

22 which is carried by the generally cylindrical lamp'base 15 which is made of insulating material.
The' holder is" formed withj'a lateral cir-' cular opening 33lina spring tongue 34 which is integrally formed with'the holder; This opening receives the pin or projection-35' that is provided upon the socket. The rear end of the spring tongue 3 1 is provided with a cam or wedging formation 36. This wedging formation is engaged by the projection 35- in the processofassembling the socket with the laterally to fpermit the projection to be '125 brought into register with-the opening 33,
