A bevelgear 19 fixed on the opposite .end of the shaft meshes with another bevjel gear 20- j ournaled in the bracket 1 5 and with the axis of one of the rollers 12 and is operatively connected thereto by a special shaft. The portion of this shaft nearest said roller and connected thereto is in the form of a closely wound helical spring 21, while the outer portion 22 is rigid and has a sliding but a non-turning fit in the hub of the gear 20. With the rotation of the shaft 16 the up:- per belt unit is reciprocated transversely reldriven in such'a direction that their adjacent runs both travel in the same direction. The lumps 23 tobe rolled are dropped in spaced relation onto the fiat portion of the lower belt at oneend from the spout 24 of a pressmg and measurlng machine, such as that for instance shown in 'my co-pending application for patent, Serial No. 55,237, filed May 24, 1930. It is of course necessary that the lumps or the belts shall be dusted in order to prevent the adhesion of the material thereto. This feature however has previously been recognized as being necessary and provision being made for takingcare of the same, and hence forms no part of this invention. As the lumps advance along the belt and the latter assumes a concave form, said lumps are engaged by the longitudinally andtransversely moving upper belt, which causes the lumps to be lowered up and down the concave surface, while being moved lengthwise of the same, until by the time said lumps pass beyond the upper belt they are in a substantially spherical form, as shown at The relatively great curvature ofthe lower belt as' differentiated. from the flat curve of the corresponding belt of the previous device, prevents any possibility of the lumps being squeezed or wedged between the belts toward their outer edges; while the specialform and mounting of said belt enables such great curvature to be obtained without ent No. 1,303,013, hereinbefore referred to..
This difference in drive. speeds of the belts increases the capacity ofthe machine to a material degree, as wellas avoiding the possibility of the lumps contacting with each other as they are worked between the belts. This is because the faster travel of the upper fiat belt tends to speed up'the longitudinal movement of the lumps being rolled back and forth on the lower belt. This separates the lumps relative to their initial spacing rather than retarding them as was found to readily seen that'I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein,
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v

A plastic rolling machine includingupper and lower endless belts between the ad jacent runs of which the material to be rolled passes, the upper run of the lower belt along that portion of the same under the upper belt having a substantially semicircular concave form in cross section relative to the up per belt and being narrower between its side edges than the upper belt, and means to re ciprocate said upper'belt transversely.

A plastic rolling machine comprising upper and lower endless belts between the adjacent runs'of which the material to be rolledpasses; rigid frame uprights to the 'sides of the belts intermediatetheir ends and projecting above the up er belt, and rollers about which saidupper iielt passes, side sup porting bars for said rollers, arms pivoted on and depending from the uprights to and supporting said bars for transverse swinging movement, a horizontal driven shaft mounted in connection with one of the uprights and extending longitudinally of the belts. a crank connection between said shaft and the adjacent'bar, aflexibleshaft unit connected to and extending axially from one of t-herolle'rs, a gear mounted in fixed relation with the' 'first named shaft axially of the second shaft and with which the outer end of the latter has slidable driving connection,
