.I DISINFECTING APPARATUS Filed Nov. a, 1927 Patented Sept. 22, 1931 ULYssEs JOSEPH SMITH, or cLEvELANnoHro l DISINFEGTING APPARATUS" Application iled. November 8, 1927. f-Serall No. 231,947.` y
This invention relates to certain improvements in disinfecting apparatus and itis an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind adapted to be placed ina pocket' 5 or recess within a wall and wherein the apparatus is provided with a carry-olf vent into which the apparatus discharges, said ventA providing means to prevent clogging of the tageous for use, as will be hereinafter more 2c fully set forth. i
The novel features ofmy invention wil hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, l will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein FigureY 1 is avertical sectional view taken through a mausoleum illustrating an apparatus constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention in applied position with respect to each of the crypts;
Figure 2 is a view in perspectivev of an apparatus unapplied; e
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view through the apparatus as herein disclosed and in applied position, the coacting wall portion being shown in fragment;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
As 'disclosed in the accompanying drawings, M denotes a mausoleum in which is provided a vertical'series of crypts C.
The side wall 1 of each of the crypts is provided in its inner face with a recess or 510 and which is divided by a vertical partition partment or `flue'memberlO, positive means pocket 2 in which is adapted to be applied 3l into two compartments 4 and 5, the compartrnent 4 being adapted to contain disinfecting crystals while the compartmentr is adapted to contain granular material,'such assand, sand-and plaster Paris and the like. The lower portion of each of these compartments4 and 5 communicates withv thev passageway 6, one end portion of said passagewayopening, as at 7 tothe front wall thereof while the opposite end ofthe passageway opening through the side wall 8 remote' from theopening7. ,u n Y `Suitably secured to the-front and rear ywalls 9,0f the container and extending along the 1 sidewall 8 isan additional compartment l() forming a flue into which they passageway 6 discharges through the opening 11 in the side wall y8 of the container. The apparatus A` when in applied position substantially snugly engages within a'recess or pocket2 and after being'so applied,;alayer 12 of cementitious materialor ythe like isapplied over such apparatus within the' pocket or recess 2 as is particularly illustrated in Figure 4 whereby the apparatus' A Vis effectively maintained in applied position. In applying this layer 12 care is Vexercised not to close or obstruct the :opening 7.- By providing the. additional comareaiforded to prevent clogging or-obstructing, of the passage from` the passageway 6 due to Ythe fact that `said compartment or flue member 10 extends from the passageway n 6 to the upper `part of the container. When v85 the'apparatus A is applied in working posiv tion, the'compartnientor Hue member 10 is in'coinmunication with an upwardly dis` posed vent orfduc't U14-'extending upwardly through the 'side wall Yof the cryptv andthe side` Walls of such crypts as may be superimposed thereon whereby each of the crypts has communication through an applied ap-l paratus A with the upper carry-off air chamber D.
As is particularly illustrated in Figure 1, it is to be noted that each of the crypts has a separate vent or duct 14 in communication therewith so that the circulation through loo each of the crypts is no way aEect-ed by the circulation through the others.
' The rear wall of each of the crypts C has associated therewith a disnfeeting apparatus A of a type particularly described and claimed in my application for patent executed on evenl date herewith. l
My' improved apparatus, asf.-heren`\dis#Y closed, is of a type wherein, after sthetvdisfnV infecting crystals have been consumed, the
granular material in theeompartrnent'iwillT flow into the passageway 6 to seal.-the same. From the foregoing description it is thought to be obviousrthat-"a disinfecting:apnv` paratus constructed in accordance with my invention isparticularly 'well adapted'for use '-lo'y reason ofthe convenience and facility with whielrit may be assembled and operated,` and'it will-"also beobvious'thayt my invene tion-is susceptiblerof some change and modi'- 'CatiOn-'withOut departing from the yprin'- ciplesv and spirit thereof land for thisreason I* dot-not Ywish tol bel understood as limitingv 'myself tothe precise arrangement and-forma# tion-of1fthe seyeral parts-herein shownlin carrying out 1 my invention inrpra'cticeeX# cept as hereinafter claimed.
