IMPROVEMENT IN PLUG-TOBACCO.
Specifioation formiug part of Letters Patent No. &82.375, deted September 19, 1876; application filed May 27. 1876.

The inventon consists in plng-tobacco having tags of Wood embedded in its body beneath the wrapper, and having the said Wrapper cnt away over the middle part of said tag, as lereinaf'ter fully described.
A represents the body of plug; B, the Wooden lnbel, and a' the wrapper.
The brand, the trade-mark, the name of manuflcturer, the price, or any other desired information, may be placed upon the tag B.
The leaves are first Iaid with forms holding the exact quantity of tobacco to make the required thickness of lump, and then fed into the machine that outs the length of plug. The wooden labe] B is then embedded in the tobaceo, the plug is then compressed and enveloped With a leaf-wrapper, a', the whole being afterward subjected to a pressure of four" hundred to five hundred tons. Finally the condensed plug is exposed to a cutter that excises the wrapper so as, to expose the enibedded label.

'claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A plug of tobacco in which a wooden label is embedded before putting on the last Wrapper, the letter being cut over the label for a branding-spece, as shown and described.
