IMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,363, dated September 19, 1,876; application filed May 16, 1876.
I is connected to the crank-shaft D to be turned by a' handle, L, or by any approved application of power. The barrels B connect below the cheek-valves F with the suction-tube G by the branches H, and at the lower end they are tted with removable plugs J to let the water run out iu cold weather, said plugs being kept in place by the sliding keys K. The top of the pumpstock is closed bya cap, which is v firmly secured by the yokes N tted under the shoulders 0,' and connected to the crossbars M on the top. The spout P is fitted for screwing on a hose or a cap to close it, and in the cap L is a screw-hole forattaching the pipe P, if desired, said hole being closed by a screw-plug, Q, which may be secured in the spout-hole, whereas the spout is fitted in the top. y The journal-bearings of theshaft are packed byelarnps R, or stuffing-boxes maybe used, if preferred. This construction makes a very sim ple suction and forcei-pump for farm and railroad use, as well as for extinguishing fires, and being suitable for hand or power.
Having thus described my invention, what'I claim asA new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The detachable plugs J, held over lateral apertures in pump stock by sliding keys, as shown and described. DAVID NEWTON GREEN. Witnesses: l
