Description

Sept. 15, 1931. COOPER 1,823,257
LADY S GARMENT Filed Aug. 28 1930 2| [6% \iVENTOR 28 BY AfiORNEY Patented Sept, 15, 1931 PATENT OFFICE I LEO M. coornn, or YONKEB-S, NEW vein:
7 LADYS GARMENT 4 Application filed August 23, 1930'. Serial No. 478,430.
a This invention relates to garments such as nurses or ma ds unlforms or the like womens apparel. I Y
Theinvention is directed to a garment of 5 the character described wherein provision is made for overlapping of thefront skirt portions so that by a reversal thereof, the time of use of the garment may be increased. Ac-
'cor'ding to this invention, the garment af m fords this and other advantages in a unitary,
one-piece construction, wherein the skirt portion is integral with the waist portion only at the rear of the latter, and may be buttoned in overlapping position to the waist 5 at the front thereof, both the waist portion and the skirt portions being open at the front to enable very easy donning and dolfing of the garment.
Otheradvantages which follow from this I construction are further pointed out in the a following specification.
A further object of this invention is to provide a neat garment of the character de scribed, which shall be comparatively inexpensive tomanufacture, comprise few and simple parts, be easy to put on or remove from the body, easy to manipulate for reversing the front skirt portions and which shall yet be attractive in appearance, and
. practical and eflicient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed,
out.
The invention accordingly consists in the bands having spaced button holes 26and 27 features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemphfied in the construction here- ;ina'fter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claim. I p In the accompanying drawings, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a-front-elevational view of the .1: garment in position on the wearer;
' Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional View taken on line 44 of Fig. 8; and F ig.-'5 is a view similar to Fig. l, but showing the front skirt portionsin reversed position. *5! Referring now in detail to the drawings, 10 designates a garment'embodying the invention, here shown in the form of a womans dress such as a housedress, or nurses or maids uniform, said garment comprising a waist 6% portion *11 preferably adapted to be buttoned at the front thereof, by means of buttons 12, ad acent the split portion 13 and button holes 14 formed adjacent the edge portion 15. The garment may be provided with sleeves 16 of 365 any suitable construction and a collar 17. The waist portion 11 preferably terminatesv at the front thereof'in a lower edge portion 18extending to the sides of the garment, said edge portion 18 preferably being gathered' and stitched to decrease the length thereof whereby the garment will be fashioned to fit the wearers body.
Extending from the rear of the waist portion and preferably integrally formed there 775 with is a skirt portion 20. Said skirtportion comprises a central rear portion 21 and a pair of outwardly extendingportions 22 and 23. It will be'noted that the outwardly extending portions 22 and 23 terminate at the waistlineand -may be folded one over the other in reverse positions. Said portions 22and 23are preferably provided with bands 24' and 25 at the upper endsthereof, said or the like fastening means, respectively. These button holes are preferably located at the central and adjacent ends of each of said outwardly extending skirt portions 22 r and 23. Sewed to the waist portion 11on' both sides ofsaid split portion thereof and adjacent the lower edge 18 thereof are buttons 30 and 31 or the like cooperating fastening means adapted to be received in the outer of said button holes 26 and 27 provided in each of said skirt portions 22 and 23. Thus. inFig. 1, the skirtportion'22 is disposed on the inside and is buttoned to the buttons 30 and 31 and also to the lowermost q of'said buttons 12. The other skirt portion I 23 is folded over the skirt portion 22 and is likewise buttoned to the buttons 30 and 31 and to the lowermost of said row of buttons 12. It will be noted that each of said skirt portions 22 and 23 covers substantially the entire front of the body so that when worn, only: the -=skirt1 portion located on the outside is exposed and soiling of' the inner skirt portion is prevented.
The skirt portion 22 is provided with a pocket 35 located adjacent theleft si'de'thereof and the skirt portion 23 is providedrwith a pocket 36 located adjacent the right side thereof so that whenthewgarment-iswormin the position shown in Fig. 1, the pocket 35 is 4 substantially: hidden :andjthe "pocket 36 is exposed for use. Eorsreversingtheposition of "the skirt portions 22 and '23, it is .;-merely unecessary 'toi unbutton saifd: skirtlportions as r of said upper edges having a plurality of shown in Fig. 3 and then to first buttoni the ski'rt portion 23 so that the same ;'is located 7 4 on rthe t i-nsirde and r to then wrap: orfbld' the :ski'rtportion .122 on the outer side and button the same to% the buttons 30 and. '31 and to the lOWGHIIOSt of said row of buttons 12. Thus,
*the'timeof useo'f'said garment between washiings'is increased. 'A' belt 40" may he -attached EtOTtlle rear of the garmentat the waistline I i13JIldl3l1iS"belt forms a continuationofthe fbands'J-24 and E25.
It will be noted that *the'garm'e'nt may 'seasilybe put onor removedin themanner :of a: coat since the waist is buttoned 'down thefront and the skirt portion-may 'be like- :wise:open at"t'he front.
at will tamed thattheoutwardly tx- Y tending-portions22wand "23 are identical and symmetrically constructed so that T the skirt 'portion of the "dress always "has I the same appearance, substantially,-whether one or the -other of fthe said portions is exposed "and further that the unexposed portion is ali w-avs-completlvhidden. so that-the saving oftinne and wear is without sacrifice asto garment,
Tttwill thus'be seen that there is 1 provided 111121118 of theabove'invention; and as 'various I ehanges mightbe made in "the-embodiment *above set forth it i s ito be understoodth atall the general "neatness and appearance of 'the opposite Sld8=z0f saidsplit, and a skirt portion permanently fixed-to said waistiportion only at the rear thereof and having oppositely extending detachable front portions "free -'fro-rn--sai'd :waist portion,- each extend- ..ingfrom one side of the garment to the other "thereby covering substantially the entire lower front partlofi the wearers body in reversible overlapping relation with the other "front ski-rt zport-ion independently of' the "WliStjPOP-tl0115fi30h of the upperedges ofsaid front skirt portions terminating-1substantiallyzzat'the waist line of the wearer land-each complementary fastening elements positioned at opposite -'sides of the front --skirt :portion for r reversibly attaehing said :front skirt; portions to said! first mentioned; fastening elements on: the lower edge of the fronth awaist portion at: the opposite sides thereof.
