The present invention relates to a brush and member is mounted a circular series of bristles more particularly to a brush for use by dentists and the like in the cleaning of teeth and the prime object of the invention resides in the provision of a brush structure having great accessibility to the various teeth in the human mouth, affording ease of operation, efficiency and reliability, simplicity in construction, durability, inexpensive in construction and 1'; otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

lVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain nove features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an elongated mandrel which is constructed at one end as is indicated at 6 so that the same may be connected in the usual well known manner 49 with a dental engine.

At the other end of the mandrel 5 there is formed a square head or enlargement 7 so that a substantially cup-shaped member 8 may be mounted thereon by means of a bolt 9, the

member being provided with square recess 10 to receive the head or enlargement 7. A washer 11 is interposed between the member 10 and the head of the screw or fastening element 9. This member 8 is of a concave-convex formation and in the periphery of the 12 to form a brush.

This brush can be used in position for the cleansing and polishing of teeth of the human mouth in positions that cannot be readily 5: reached by the usual brush as now manufactured and provided for this purpose. It will be noted by referring to Figures 7 and 8 that the buccal or outside surfaces of the last molars can readily be reached for treatment so in a manner that is most convenient for the operator and without pain or inconvenience to the patient. The distal buccal and distal lingual surfaces can be reached with equal ease and facility. As will be noted every position possible to be reached by any brush now in use can be reached by this device and that by reversing the brush upon its mandrel, every possible corner and angle of the human mouth can be reached and every tooth and cavity brought within the range of its action and the field of operation is always in sight. It will further be noted that the device is particularly simple in its arrangement and equally simple and efifective in its use and operation.

It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art Without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. In combination with a mandrel, a brush head of substantially cup-shape having an opening in its central portion, means passing through said opening for reversibly attaching the head to an end of the mandrel with the bristles extending forwardly or with the bristles extending rearwardly, that edge of the cup-shape head between the mouth of the opening and the exterior wall of the-head having an annular groove therein, and bristles fastened in said groove.

2. In combination with a mandrel, a brush head of substantially cup-shape having a groove in the edge of the wall which surrounds the opening therein, bristles fastened in said groove, and said head having a centrally arranged opening countersunk at each end, a collar at the end of the mandrel for engaging either countersink, a screw adapted to pass through the opening for connecting the head to the mandrel with the head in a position with the bristles extending forwardly, or with the head in a position with the bristles extending rearwardly, and a reversible washer having a convex face and a concave face for engaging the head of the screw and placed between said head and a part of the cup-shaped head, said washer being placed in the opening in the head of the brush when the same is in a position with the bristles extending forwardly and said washer engaging the exterior part of the brush head when the same is in the position with the bristles extending rearwardly.
