The present invention relates to improvements in advertising apparatus, one object of the inventionbeing the provision of a machine of the type shown and described in my co-pending application filed February 9th, 1929, Serial No. 338,738, except that in the present machine a script type sign carry ng member may be attached to the rotary sign carrying member as a cylinder, and carry the various independent display signs, one to each partition of the member, or four signs may be used separately as in the above mentloned ap lication.

' Still another object of the present invention is the provision of a'gearing arrange ment between the motor and master driven rotary sign, wherebyat will the sign carrying member may be given a rotary slow motion movement or, an intermittent rotatlon, thus providing an advertising apparatus for point of sale advertising with all of the best selling features embodied in a single machlne. carrying member showing a script sign in move- Referring to the drawings, the numeral 7 designates a base, which has mounted thereon a casing 8, provided with three openings 9, through'the sides as will presently appear. This casing here shown as a single casing, can, however, be made in a sectional manner as set forth in my copending application.
An electric motor 10 is the prime mover for the present apparatus, and its shaft 11 drives the short shaft l2,as clearly shown in figure 7 Slidably mounted upon the outer end of the shaft 12 and rotatable therewith through the pin-and-slot connection 13' is asleeve l3, and pinned to the outer end of the sleeve 13 and movable therewith is a shaft 12, which has mounted fixedly thereon the gear 16 andthe stargear 19 of a Geneva movement. Apin 19attaches thestargear 19 to the sleeve'l3. Formed integrally with the sleeve 13 are two grooves 13" and 13, the former to receive the upper end of the shift ing lever 14, which in turn is manually operated by thepush and pull rod to shift the sleeve 13 as will presently appear. Connected to one end of a sign carrying member 22 is a drivenshaft 21, whose othervend is journalled' in the bearing 22, and fixed to this shaft is one member 20 of a clutch by means of a pin 20, while slidably mounted on the shaft 21 are two metal tubular members 20, and 20", the former having a radius member or arm 13, whose free end encircles the sleeve 13 in the groove 13, so that as the sleeve 13 is moved, the members 20 and 20 are also moved, and the clutch member 20 'is moved into and out of engagement with the member 20. The star wheel 20 is geared to and rotates at all times with the gear 19, and this wheel 20 is rotatable with the tubular member 20". It will thus be seen that as the lever 14 is operated, that is, when it is pushed to the right as viewed in Figure 7 the sleeve 13 and the tubular members 20 and 20", are moved to the right also, thus placing the gear 16'into mesh with the teeth 17 of the gear 18, of the sign carrying member 22 to cause the latter member to be rotated at a steady continuous speed, the star wheel having been moved out of the path of the movable member 35 of the switch, to permit the switch to close and thus cause lamps to be energized during the continuous rotation of the sign carrying member. At the time that the sleeve 13' was moved to the right, the clutch was thrown out and shaft21 was free to rotate with the sign carrying member 22. To cause the sign carrying member to be rotated intermittently and also to cause the switch to be intermittently opened and permitted to be closed, the rod 15 is pulled to the extreme left, thus releasing gear 16 from gear. 18, and throwing in the clutch, so that the sign carrying 'member is'driven from sleeve 13 and the Geneva movement intermittently. Inasmuch as the star wheel 20 is now placed in the path to engage the switch member 35, the switch will now be intermittently opened and closed.
Each sign carrying member has two end members 23 and 24, and the correcting rails 25, four in number and constructed with the grooves 26 and 27. The member 2 1 surrounds the fiXed shaft 28, which is a'support for the lamp 29, and the other'member has attached thereto the shaft-21 and large gear 18, the external teeth 30 of which are in mesh with the small gear 31, mounted in the easing and engaging thelargej gear 32 of the upper sign carrying member 33, and this latter member acts to drive the ones above, in this instance the member 34. a
In order to control the lighting of the lamps2 9 and 29", a normally closed switch 35} is inlthe path to be intermittently opened and closed when the star wheel is being intermittently operated, and the sliding sleeve 13 is retracted, while when the sleeve is pushed inwardly to engage the gears 16 and 17 the switch is always closed. By this arrangement, the lamps are intermittently en ergized as the sign carrying members areintermittentIy operated and are continuously lighted when the members are being slowly rotated,

1. A display apparatus, including a casing, a plurality of rotary sign carrying members mounted therein, a motor to drive said members, two transmission mechanisms interposed between the motor and one ofthe sign carrying members, one mechanism to im{ part intermittent and the other to transmit continuous motion to the sign carrying mem-. bers, and manually selective means for bringing into operation either of said mechanisms atatime. v
2. A display apparatus according to claim l, in which electric lamps are employed to illuminate said sign carrying members, and a switch under the control of the manually selective means whereby said switch is con trolled thereby tocause the lamps'to be intermittently or continuously energized as the sign carrying members are rotated.
3. A display apparatus, including a casing, a rotary sign carrying member mounted therein, an electric lamp mounted therein to illuminate the member, and a, script sign sheet to be made in cylindrical form removably mounted upon and carried by said' nem-i ber, saidsigncarrying member having aphirality of spaced and grooved connecting members, the scriptsign sheet having a, bent edge tofit in the groove of one connecting member while thecsheet surroundsthe other connecting membersland has its free edge at tached to the sheet adjacent the bent edge thereof. 7

movement, and an internal gear carried by the sign carrying member for engagement with the gear carried by the second sleeve, whereby when the clutch members are engaged intermittent motion is imparted to the sign carrying member and when the clutch members are disengaged and the internal and sleeve carried gears are engaged continuous motion is imparted to the sign carrying member.
