This invention relates to improvements in detachable display brackets of the type employed for supporting articles for display in show windows and on store counters.
It is the object of this invention to produce a simple and practical display bracket that can readily be attached to any support whether the same be vertical or'horizontal and regardless of the size and shape of the support.
This invention is an improvement over the one shown and described in my copending application Serial No. 517696, filed February '24, 1931.
The invention that forms the subject of this application briefly described, consists of a central curved member of resilient material to the ends of which clamping jaws are attached. The jaws are made of comparatively rigid sheet metal and are provided with notches extending inwardly from one side. The jaws are so related to the central member that when the parts are in normal position the two jaws lie substantially in the same plane. By bending the central member the jaws can be inclined with respectto each other so that they may be attached to a support. A bracket is secured to the central member and projects outwardly from the conveX side thereof. This bracket has three angularly inclined sides and a slot that extends through all of the sides and which is adapted to receive a clamping bolt for holding a supporting shelf.
Having thus briefly described the invention, the same will now be described in detail, and for this purpose reference will be had to the accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment thereof has been illustrated, and in which: i

as consisting of several sections extending alternately in a horizontal and vertical direction but may be of any other shape, and is merely intended to represent a'support of any suitable size and construction.
The detachable bracket consists of a central part 3 which is'preferably made from spring steel and is normally curved in the manner shown in Fig. 7. Secured to the ends of the central resilient member are clamping jaws 4:. These jaws are made from sheet met- 'al of considerable strength and rigidity and are each provided with a notch 5 extending inwardly from one side thereof. The walls 6 of the notches are substantially parallel and I extend at right angles to the longitudinal axis of member 3. For the purpose of securing the jaws to the central resilient member they have been provided at one end with an eX- tension 7 having laterally projecting portions 8 that can be folded about the ends of" member 3 and clamped to the latter by means of a press so as to hold the jaws securely attached to the resilient central member. For the purpose of affording projection against the sharp edges of walls 6, the;
latter have been provided with a detachable resilient covering which consists of a sheet metal member 9 bent into U-shape and which has outwardly and rearwardly projecting flanges 10. These flanges serve to engage theedges of a rubber strip 11 in the manner shown in Fig. 5. lVhen these protectors are in place, the rubber strip is so positioned that it will engage the sides of the support and will therefore prevent the latter from becoming scratched or marred during the application and removal of thebracket.
Attached to the center of the resilient member is a metal clip 12. This clip has end portions 13 that are bent inwardly and are pressed against 'the inside of member 3 in the manner-shown in Fig. 3. A bolt '14 extends through an opening in clip 12..and.proj ects outwardly therefrom. This bolt is provided with a wing nut 15and serves to hold, the bracket"17 in place. Bracket '17 has a straight portion 18 that is provided .With an opening for the reception of the bolt '14. Extending outwardly fromone'end-of part 18 is a side 19 which lies substantially at vi ightnngles to the part 18. Side 19'terminates in a short side 20 that extendsatan :anglebf iforty five degrees with :it, and this inturn-terminates.inaaportion 21 that is par- :allelzto theside 18. A's'lot 22 extendsthrough the sides 19, 20 and 21 and this slot is adapted ito :receive the: clamping bolt 23 i that pro jects .from the supporting table or shelf 24. The shelf can beattachedtothe bracket so :asito be parallel to eitherof the three- sides 19, 20 and 21 which gives it three positions. -When theshelf isto be held inan inclined iposition, itis secured to bracket 17 in the mannershown in Figs. 1:and -2, but 'if the detachable bracket is fastened =Lto a horizon- -tal shelf or =other horizontal support like that indicated by reference numeral 25 in :Fig.*6,-Sl1Glf' 24 can he -clamped against sides 21 and will therefore be parallel with the support. :Sincebr-acket 17 is rotatable about ithe clampingbolt 14, this affordsanotheradjustment that makes it possibleto bring the :supportingshe'lf 24 into any desired position regardless of the inclination of the sup- ;port2.

Attention is calledtothe fact that the centatable connection of bracket 17, it is possible to adjust the supporting shelf 24 to any desired position, regardless of the inclination of the support as can be readily seen if the drawings forming part of this application 4 are turned so as to bring the support 2rin Fig. 2 into horizontal or any intermediate position. A display bracket'eomprising a curved central portion of-sp'ring metal, a clamping jaw secured to each end thereof, the clamping jaws being formed from sheet metal of greater rigidity than the central portion and normally extending in opposite direction, each jaw member having a notch extending inwardly from one side, the opposing edges of the notches being substantially parallel and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the curved central portion, removable protective pads enclosing the edges, and a curved bracket rotatably connected to the convex side of the center portion, the free end of the bracket having an elongated slot.
