The object of this, my present invention, is the provision of a bearing connection-between the pitman and the wrist pin for mowing machines, binders, etc., of a construction whereby the bearing is held from longitud1- nal movement on the wrist pin, comprises a pair of sections having shims at the confronting ends thereof to compensate for wear, having means whereby a lubricant is constantly fedinto a well or pocket in which is seated the wrist pin, means for preventing the lubricant from splashing through the well as well as means whereby the jaws of the pitman are connected to the bearing box in a manner to insure free-movement and proper sweep thereof.

For a full and comprehensive understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description which is to be read in connection with the accompanying drawings which form part of the application and in which:

Figure 1 is a plan view of the improve ment, a portion of the fly wheel being in section.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the lower member of the bearing box, the bolts which connect the bearing box sections and the bolts which attach the straps to the wooden pitman as well as the fly wheel being in section.

Figure 3 is a sectional View approximately on the line 33 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is an end elevation of the im provement, the wrist pin being in section.

Figure 5 is a sectional view approximately on the line 55 of Figure 1.

Figure 6 is a detail plan view looking toward the inner end of one of the box sections.

In the showing of the drawings 1 have illustrated my improvement as applied to a mowing machine, but obviously the same can be associated with a binder or with any other device to which the same is applicable.

In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a portion of a fly wheel and 2 the wrist pin therefor. The wrist pin has an outer integrally formed enlarged head 3.

inner and restricted portion of the bore provides a shoulder 8 that is contacted by a two-part felt washer 9 which is also contacted by the bushings 7. The outer end of the body 1 is enlarged to provide the same with a linger pocket 10 in which the headed end of the wrist pin 2 is received. In addition to this the pocket provides a. well for a lubricant.

Arranged over the confronting surfaces of the two-part bearing box there are any desired number of shims 11 which, of course, corresponds to both the inner and outer contour of the said box. These shims provide an important part of the invention, as the same will be increased in number or decreased in accordance with the wear between the box and the wrist pin.

The upper section of the'box, at its widened outer end has screwed therethrough a nipple 12 closed by a depressible valve and which valve is designed to be opened by an alemite or like gun for forcing the lubricant into the pocket 10.

The ears 5 and the shims which are arranged over the ears have passed therethrough; a bolt 13 which is engaged by the usual nut, while the ears 6 have their outer faces provided with rounded concaved portions 14: for the reception of the bosses on aws 15 on the straps 16 of the wooden pitman 17. There is passed through the jaws 15, the ears and the shims that are arranged between the cars a bolt 18 which is engaged by a suitable nut. The walls provided by the openings in the jaws 15 through which the bolt 18 passes are rounded from their ends to their center or the bolt 18 may pass loosely through the said openings and whereby a vertical as well as a lateral swinging of the pitman is af 5 forded.

WVith my improvement it will be noted that the pocket or Well is filled with a lubricant and this lubricant will be delivered to both the head and the body of the wrist pin and 10 onto the bearing bushings 7 The lubricant cannot escape through the bearing box because of the shims therebetween and likewise because of the felt washers 9, so that any liability of lubricant splashing through the device will be thus avoided.

The construction and advantages of my improvement will, it is thought be understood and appreciated so that furtherdetailed description will not be required.

320 Having described the invention, I claim:

A hearing box for the wrist pin and for the jaws of a pitman comprising a two-part casting that includes a tubular body in which the wrist pin is received; bushings in the 325 body providing bearings for the wrist pin,

13- second pair of ears having their ends concaved to receive the jaws of a pitman therein, an adjustable bolt securing the jaws in said ears, and a nipple having a normally closed va-lve screwed in the widened outer end of the body and providing a means for admitting lubricant into such end of the body.
