This invention is for improvements inor relating to finger-rings, and is particularly concerned with eternity, posy or hoop rings which have ornamentation or gems or the like around their whole outer surface. With ordinary rings of other types it is comparatively easy to alter the size of the ring by cutting it through and rej oining the ends, but it is not readily possible to do this. with eternity and like rings, as the 'continuity of the ornamentation would be disturbed. It is therefore one of the objects of the present invention to provide means for adjusting the sizes of eternity and like finger-rings.

According to the primary feature of the present invention, there is provided a fingerring comprising an outer rim (for example to receive ornamentation or gems or the like), and one or more annular flanges detachably carried by the ring and intended to bear upon a finger inserted through them. Conveniently, the outer rim provides an undercut seat for the outer edge of each flange so as to retain the flange detachably in position after the manner in which a watch glass is retained in its bezel ring.

There may be only a single flange, if desired, but preferably there will be two such flanges, one at each side of the finger-ring,

land of such thickness that when inV place in their seats in the outer rim they will lie flush with the sides of the rim. The outer edges of the flanges may be slightly tapered, if desired, in order to facilitate their reception in the undercut seats.

According to another feature of the invention, the outer rim is thickened on its inner face at the middle portion of its width to provide abutments facing the iianges. This thickening will not only serve to strengthen vthe outer rim, but if the said abutments have faces in the saine planes as the inner faces of the undercut seats, the abutments will constitute parts of the seats for f the flanges.

Also the said thickening may be discon` tinuous around the ring so as to provide a pattern effect. For instance, it could take the form of transverse bars located between adjacent gem settings, whereof the ends of the bars constitute the aforesaid abutments.

For a more complete understanding of the invention there will now. be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, certain constructional forms of finger rings according to the invention. It is to be understood, however, that the invention is not restricted to the precise constructional details set forth.

Referring firstly to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the finger-ring therein shown comprises'an outer rim 10 and two annular side ianges 11 and 12. These flanges 11 and 12 are tapered on their outer peripheries 13 and 14 so. as to be received in undercut seats 15 and 16 respectively in the rim 10. The fianges are intended vto be detachably retained in position in their seats after the fashion in which a Watch glass is retained in its bezel ring. YThe inner `pe- V ripheries 17 and 18 of the side flanges are intended to bear upon the finger of the-wearer and it will be seen that to adjust the fingerring to suit the wearer', all that isnecessary is to fit suitable iianges 11 and 12 to it, the aperture in the flanges being of a size suitable to the finger of the wearer and no alteration to the outer rim 10 being necessary.V For one size of outer rim 10 a number of different sizes of flanges 1l and 12 maybe available, all of which will fit the seats 15 and16 in the rim but will have different internal diameters 17 and 18 to suit different sizes of *iingeis. The thickness of the flanges 11 and 12 is such that when they are in place in their seats 15 and 16, they will lie flush with the sides of the rim 10. The rim 10 is formed BCLN with perforations 19 so that it may have diamonds or other gems or the like mounted in it and these perforations 19 may be tapered or otherwise suitably formed in order to serve [laila ll tlltl l* the middle portion of its Width to provide abutments 20,21, facing the flanges 11 and 12. This thickening serves to strengthen the outer rim and as in the construction illustrated the abutments-20, 21 have their faces in the same planes as the inner faces of the seats 15 and 16, the abutments constitute parts of theseats for the flanges. Moreover., these abutments` may be used as guides for the tool in forming-the undercut. seats. Theouter rim with its thickening may be made in one piece of material, or the Ithiokeningmay be fitted to the outer rim by soldering or otherwise attaching a-separately formedring. The thickening may initially beof the same Width as the outer rim, but after having been fixed in position may have itsedges cut away so as to leave only the middleportion. fn the construction illustrated the perforations 19 for the gems are continued right through the aforesaid thickening and the latter is made discontinuousaround the ring so as to provide a pattern effect. T his takes the form of transverse lars 22, located between adjacent perforations 19, the ends of the bars constituting the aforesaid abutments 2O and 21.

The outer faces of the flanges `1() and 11may be chased or otherwiseI ornament-ed in any convenient Way. as illustrated at 23, Figure 1, and any suitable material may be employed iii-making up the ring.

In the construction shown in Figure l, the outer rim 10 is formed integrally with at one side flange 2a and has one detachable flange 25 similar to the flanges 11 and 12'aforesaid. If the internal diameter 26 of the flange 2li is too large for the wearer, alternative detachable flanges 25 could be fitted with smaller internal diameters 27.
