This invention relates to gas burners and more particularly to a burner for use in liring coal stoves and the like, the principal object of the invention being to provide means for doing away with 'the necessity of starting a fire with wood or other kindling material.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fire igniting burner which may be insorted in the stove when the fire is to be started and easily removed and placed out of Y the accompanying drawings which latter show embodiments of the invention as at present preferred.
In said drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a stove, partially in section, showing the method of using the embodiment.V
Fig. 2 is a top plan view ofthe embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of same. Fig. 4 is a section in line 4-4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view-of a modification of the embodiment. v
Referring now more particularly to said drawings, the embodiment, as at present preferred, includes a burner having a body portion 10, a hanger portion 11, integral with said body portion, anda gas connecting portion 12. The embodiment is preferably con- 45 structed of cast iron and is detachably mounted between the grates 13 of a stove 14 by means of a spring clip 15, which passes through the hanger portions 11. In orderto insert said spring clip between twoof said grates it is only necessary to compress the lowing specification and fully illustrated iny end portions of said lspring Vcliptogether, i as f shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 4.
TheA body kportion the larger end thereof being near the outsideY of'said stove. A narrow rectangular slot 16 with flange edges is provided on the upper side of said body portion in order to provide a burner area. The gas connecting portion 10' is "somewhat tapered, Y
12 is constructed with a plurality of ridges v.
12 in order to provide an airtightengagement with the gas hose 17. This gas connecting portion is also opening 18, the inner portion 18 being smaller in order to concentrate the gas pressure at this point. A cut away portion 19 of the body portion is provided in order to allow the air to enter and mix with the gas.
When it is desired to start a fire in the stove, the coal is placed upon the grates and the burner is placed underneath same by means of the aforesaid spring clip. The gas is then turned on and the gas ignited with a match. The burner is allowed to burn only long enough to completely ignite the coal. The burner may then be removed, the operan tor taking care not toy burn the hands. The gas hose may then be removed and the burner hung up in any convenient place by means of a looped portion 20, integral with the smaller end of the body portion. Y
In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the
provided with a tapered v upper portion of the body portion is provided 1 with a solid piece of metal 21, integral there` with, having a hole 21 therethrough. Two pieces of spring metal 23 are secured to said solid piece 21 by means of a bolt 24. i l
The hereinbefore described constructionV admits of considerable modication without loo gas connecting portion at the larger end of said body portion and a hanger structure on the upper side of said body portion and being integral therewith, a spring clip through said hanger structure adapted to detachably secure said body portion to the grates of a stove, said body portion having a. out away portion on the underside thereof to kadmit air into said compartment, a narrow rectangular opening on the upper side of said body portion, said opening adapted to provide a burner portion for said fire kindler, and :t hanger structure at the smaller end of said body portion adapted to provide means for hanging said burner when not in use.
In testimony whereof I hereby afi-ix my signature. y y
