WICK FOR COOKING .AND HEATING STOVES.
Application filed January 13, 1927. Serial No. 160,876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.Y
This invention relates to and has for one of its objects to provide a wick for cooking and heating stoves which shall be non-combustible and capable of efficient use for a long time with little or no attention and which may be manufactured and sold at a,
' 2 thereof renders the wick non-combustible,
comparatively low cost.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel con struction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illus trated in the accompanying drawing, where in:
Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of a wick constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on a plane extending vertically and centrally through the wick. f p The wick is cylindrical and: comprises a lower portion 1 made of cotton and an upper portion 2 made of asbestos fabric. The lower portion 1 is of greater length than the uaper portion 2, and the contiguous edges of said portions are woven together as indicated at 3. A perforated raiser plate 4 is applied to the wick portion 1 and extends from a plane located immediately above the unitedcontiguous edges of the portions 1. and 2 to the lower edge of the portion 1.
As the portion 2 is made of asbestos fabric and has its lower end woven tothe upper end of the wick portion 1, there is 'no'necessity for the use of a form maintaining element or elements in connection with said upperportion. The asbestosupper portion and as said portion is made of asbestos fabric the wick will last for several years and will require little or no attention. The wick pro- 4.0 duces a blaze as efficient as those produced by cotton wicks, and when the fuel is exhausted the blaze will be quickly extinguished. The wick can be made in all sizes to fit standard makes of cooking or heating stoves.
lower edge of the upper portion to the lower edge of the lower portion. 7 v
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM A. JONES.
