Description

Patented Sept. 1, 1931 WADE E. SAC KNEB, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN I rackme 001m Application filed Kay 9, 1980. Serial No. 451,186.
The object of this invention is to provide an economical construction of soft packing or filler cord.
A specific object of the invention is to utilize crepe tissue or tissue pa r, also known as cellulose wadding, for suc purpose.
Objects pertaining to details will appear from the description to follow. I
A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation view of a section of such cord with the end portion of the material released and spread out.
Fig. 2 is a detail end view of the spread out end of the cord as it appears in Fig. 1, showing the dispositionand arrangement of layers of the aforesaid crepe tissue paper or cellulose wadding.
The parts will be identified by their numerals of reference which are the same in all the views.
The cord 1 is made up of layers 2 of very soft crepe tissue paper or cellulose wedding cut into strips of appropriate dimension, accumulated in layers, into cylindrical form, abraiding machine and covered with li ht thread. The result is 'a very soft, flexi le cord. r
I am aware that cotton fiber hasbeenwound and incorporated into cords of this kind. This material which I have produced is far superior to the cotton material as it is lighter and more substantial, though of less tensile strength and not so resistant to water. The use of cellulose waddin or soft crepe tissue permits absolute controIof the size and uniformity of the finished cord. This is not possible when cotton fibers are used. Cotton fibers, when made into roving or slivers, the form-in which cotton must be manufactured to make it practical for use as a filler, produce a material which lacks uniformity and when'used in a cord like our finished product,
the cord may vary 2/32" in diameter in a cord of 6/32" outside diameter. In larger sizes the variation is frequently greater.
The result of my invention is a very su rior article at much less money than it as.
ever been produced before.
While I have referred to the tissue paper as creped, with I am using, the
a considerable I desire to the very light material which manipulation itself secures to extent the crepe effect.
