Description
Sept. 1, 1931. F. w. H. SEGELCKE 1,821,182
GARTER Filed May 19. 1930 Patented Sept. 1, 1931 FRITS w. n. SEGELCKE,
NT OFFICE or TULSA, OKLAHOMA GARTER Application filed. May 19,
which is provided with a depending grip supporting strap, improved means for adjustably connecting the free end of said elastic body member to the junction portion of said strap, and said body portion,
.1 whereby free pivotal movement will exist between the free end of said body portion and its connecting point.
A further ob ect is to provide in a garter of that type having an elastic body portion and a depending supporting strap improved means for adjust-ably connecting the free end of the body portion with the junction point of said strap and said body portion.
My invention consists in the construction,
arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompany drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved garter.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged, detail sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure l is a segmental view of the back portion of the junction of the supporting strap and the body portion, showing the manner in which the strap is secured to the body portion.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I have used the numeral to indicate the body portion of my improved garter, which comprises a strip or tape of elastic material, one end of which is beveled at 11, as indicated in Figure 1.
A strip of fabric tape 12 is secured to the front face of the beveled end of the member 10, which is projected downwardly and then looped upon itself with its free end secured 1930. Serial No. 453,607.
to the back face of the member 10 and sewed into position. The outer edge of the tape 12 is parallel with the beveled edge 11. A second tape 13 is also secured to the upper end of the back face of the tape 12.
The lower end of the tape 13 is designed to support one portion of a hose grip 14, and the lower end of the tape 12 is designed to support the coacting member of said grip.. The members 14 and 15 are preferably formed of non-corrosive and non-metallic material, such as celluloid or ivory.
Secured to the front face of the upper end of the tape 12 is a button 16, Sewed to the free end of the elastic 10 is a pair of tapes 17 formed of very soft and pliable material. Said tapes 17 are mounted in a common plane with their inner edges adjacent and secured together by means of a series of groups of transversely arranged rows of stitches 18, to form button holes 19. The button holes 19 are designed to receive the button 16, and provide means whereby the diameter of the body portion 10 may be increased or decreased without the use of metallic fastening devices, such as now in common use, and which are more or less disagreeable to the wearer.
The members 12 and 13 constitute what I shall term a grip supporting strap. By mounting this strap to fit the beveled edge 11 I have provided means whereby the adjoining end of the body 10 will assume a natural position when placed on the wearers leg. The adjustable ends 17 fall naturally in position on account of the pivotal connection between said .end members 17 and the button 16.
By forming the button hole supporting strip in the manner above described, I have provided means whereby this strip may be of minimum thickness, and at the same time of easy and cheap manufacture.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided an improved garter of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, which is easy and cheap to manufacture, and at the same time very comfortable to the wearer, and which is easily and quickly adjusted to various sizes.
I claim as my invention:
1. A garter comprising an elastic body portion having one end beveled, a tape secured to the front face of said body adjacent to said beveled edge and depending therefrom, said tape having an upwardly extending underlapping portion terminating back of said body, a second depending tape secured to the back 01" said body and back of the first said tape, one member of a gripping device being secured to one of said tapes and a coacting gripping member secured to the other one of said tapes, the free end or" said body being provided with a pair of soft and pliable tapes placed with their inner edges adjoining, a series of spaced groups of transversely arranged rows of stitches connecting said strips to form button holes, a button secured to the front face of the junction of said depending tapes and said body portion.
'2. A' garter comprising an elastic body portion having one end beveled, a tape secured to the front face of said body adjacent to said beveled ed e and depending therefrom, said tape having an upwardly extending underlapping portion terminating back of said body, a second depending tape secured to the back of said body and back of the first said tape, one member of a gripping device being secured to one of said tapes and a coacting gripping member secured to the other one of said tapes, a soft pliable tape secured to the free endrof said body portion and having a series of button holes, a button secured to the front of the junction of said depending tapes and said body portion.
Des Moines, Iowa, May 5, 1930.
