Description
Aug. 25, 1931. 0.5 LAW GARMENT HANGER Filed Jan. 9, 1928 In v'entor. Otis, E. L a w.
His Attorney.
Patented Aug. 25, 1931 UNITED STATES OTIS E. LAW, OI BROOKFIELD,
ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGN- MENTS, TO PINLESS CLOTHES LINE CORR, A CORPORATION OF. ILLINOIS GARMENT HANGER Application filed. January 9, 1928. Serial No. 245,583.
My invention relates to garment hangers, and more particularly to hangers of a type adapted for drying and airing garments after cleansing.
I The object of my invention is to provide a device of the kind described of simple and inexpensive construction, and convenient of application whereby garments after wash ing, dyeing, etc., may be hung up to air and dry. I
Another object of my invention is to provide a portable garment hanger of a type obviating the use of clothes pins.
Other objects and advantages will appear more fully in the hereinafter specification when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan View of y devlce. a",
Figure 2 1s a fragmentary side l v t thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing my device in operation.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of my device when folded.
With more particular reference to the drawings, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, A designates a metal joint having sockets 11, 12 in each of which a looped end 13 of one of the links B having a twist 15, is inserted. By inspection of Fig ures 1 and 2, it will be seen that the links B may be coupled together by the joints A to form a continuous, freely foldable hanger,
adapted to be secured to or hung on any convenient object such as the pole 16 and the bracket 17 on a shed 18, a fragment of which latter, is shown.
When not in use, my garment hanger may be conveniently folded into a bundle of links, as best shown in Figure 4, compact enough to be carried in a mans coat pocket or in a small travelling bag.
In manufacturing my device, I employ the crimping may be expeditiously done with ordinary wire cut into equal lengths and then by a single operation of a wire bendwife into one of the links B. The metal joints which provide the sockets 11, 12 are merely strips of sheet metal crimped over the adjoining end of the separate links, this last operation being accomplished by a crimping machine, although if preferred,
a pair of suitable crimping pincers. The wire used in my hanger being of the nonoxidizing variety, there will be no danger of rust marks on the garments hung thereon. From an inspection of the drawings together with the foregoing description, the mode of using my device has been in great measure indicated, it only being necessary to mention that a corner or end of a garment to be hung will be inserted in the diverging part of, the loop 20, and then slid into the twist 15, whereby a clamping engagement of the link with the clothes is effected. sufficient to sustain the latter, this being best shown in Figure 1 where an ordinary towel.
is hung on my device in the manner described. It will be observed that the ends 21 and 22 of the wire forming the links B,
are detaohably secured in one of the sockets, this method permitting the detachment of any or all of the; links in cases where a clothes line of less length is desired.
While I have illustrated and described a preferred form of my invention, it will be understood that the device is susceptible to some variation and modification; hence I do not confine myself literally to the precise details as set forth, but Wish to take advantage of such embodiments and modifications as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A clothes hanger formed of a plurality of wire links, each bent to provide a central .90
(1 machine, twist and loop the section of twisted part, a loop at one end and a pair of prongs at the other end; a plurality of substantially rectilinear, imperforate strips of metal crimped at each end to provide an individual socket for the loop and the pair of prongs of said wire links, the wire links when joined by said strips of metal providing a continuous freely foldable hanger for securing garments and fabrics thereto.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
OTIS E. LAW.
