The cap 19 has a disk like body portion merging into a down turned annular fiange or rim 20. Suitable spring members 21 are secured to the rim at spaced circumferential points tliereon for frictional engagement with the upper edge of the cylinder 17 for retaining the cap on the upper end of the cylinder.

The disk like body portion of the cap merges into a centrally located raised crown portion 22. An annular series of air holes 23 are formed in the upper end portion of the crown 22.

An annular rimmed pan 28 is mounted in the lower end of the sling or Cradle 24 and is bolted or otherwise secured to the end member 'Adapted for disposition within the pan 28 is a glass cup or container 30. In practice then it will be seen that the upper end of the sling 24 fits snngly within the cap 19 and the sling extends downwardly into the cylinder 17 with the bottom member 27 of the sling resting in the cup shaped member 13.

suitable cap 40. The cap 40 may be of any suitable structure preferably similar to the cap 19, in that it is provided with an apertured dome 41 upon which is supported and secured in any suitable manner the plate 31 carrying the cross 32 and the mannikin 33.

Preferably, when using the polygonal shaped casing 37 which casing is also opened at its front, having a door 42 hinged in the opened front of'tlie casing, the sling 24 is dispensed with. In leu .of the sling, and as shown to advantage in F igure 4, the pan 28 has its bottom resting on a collar 29 on the upper threaded end of the rod 9. In this instance, the upper threaded end of the rod 9 is extended up into the cup Shaped member 13 and the pan 28 is secui'cd to the upper threaded end of the rod 9 through the medium of a suitable nut 43 threaded on said upper end of the rod.

Of course mounted in the pan 28 will be the glass cup or container 30 in the usnal Inanner.

From the foregoing then it will be seen that I have devised a thoroughly practical torchre especially adaptable for usein cemeteries whereby a light may be kept burning for a considerablc length of time over a grave Without continnal attendance. It will be also appreciated, that a torchere einbodying the features of the present invention, is simple in construction, consists of but comparatively few parts, can be readily assembled or disassembled, and when assenibled will present a veryrattractive and pleasing appearance fully in keeping with the purpose for which it is designed.

Even though I have herein shown and describcd the preferred embodiment-s of my invention, it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible to changes fully .Coniprehended by the spirit of the inventionas herein described, and the scope of the appended claim. i

Having thus describediny invention, what I claini as new is In a torch of the character described, a base, a hollow standard rising from'the base, a globe on the upper end of said standard having its upper end open, a cap fitted over the open end of the globeand being provided withispring fingers for releasably seeuring the cap in position, said cap having a dome rising from its center, a canopy resting upon the dome, a sling fitted in said globe having an open pan with an upstanding rim, a container in said pan, and means Connecting the said slingand said cap to the canopy for removalfrom the globe as a unit.
