ABDOMINAL SUPPORT Application filed December 18, 1929. Serial No. 414,897.
The invention is for an abdominal supporter.
The main object of the invention is to provide a form fitting abdominal support Bin which the body material is knitted to the approximate desired contour of the abdomen of the wearer. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a support as before described, which, in addition to vertical side adjusters, is also provided with an inelastic adjustment at the lower horizontal edge of the device, for providing a cupping form for support of the lowerpart of the abdomen.
Another object of the invention is to pro- --vide a device of the class described, which may readily be attached to the carrier member or corset, and as readily detached or replaced. I
Another object of the invention is to provide means for anchorage of a bustretainer, on said device for the purpose of retaining j said bust retainer in desirable and comfortable position. 25 Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the class will be comfortable, effective, and of neatappearance, and which may be adjusted tosuit changing conditions of form of the wearer. Other objects of the invention will become apparent from the drawings, and as the description is set forth, as also from the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved abdominal support showing the front panel in open position; 6 Figure. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken through Fig. 1 on line 22;
Figure 3 is a front elevationalview of the .7 improved abdominal support per se, inserts and laces removed; j j Figure 4 isa vertical sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Similar reference characters are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views.
The corset or carrier member comprises back panels 10 and 11 which areadaptable. to be fitted to the back of the wearer when propdescribed which erly adjusted by means of laces 12 cooperating with eyelets 13 at the contiguous edges of members 10 and 11. Tapes of eyelets 14 vertically disposed, are attached to the corset members 10 and 11 adjacent-their opposite n edges, preferably two tapes being provide on each member, thus providing additional adjustment for the abdominal support. Garters 15 are attached to members 10 and 11 for support of the stockings of the wearer.
The front panel 16 consists of an ornamental fabric, provided with a reinforcing fabric .17 indicated dotted, and having attached thereto, garters 15. The opposite vertical edges of panel 16 are provided with hooks 18, adapted to cooperate with eyelets in tapes 14. The panel 16 isintended to be folded over, the abdominalsupport to conceal said support and provide'a neat appearance to the wearer. Shoulder straps 19 and 20 attached to members 10 and 11, as indicated at 21 and 22, theopposite edges being attached to front panel 16 as indicated at 23 and 24, are provided to retain the upper edges of the corset in proper position. I
The abdominal support per se 25 consists of the two form knitted members 26 and 27, vwhich 8.1'6'80 formed, in knitting by known means,as to cup under and conform to the contour of a protruding a domen. A firm cordis used. in knitting the members, and due to the members being knitted, a slightly yieldable fabric is thereby provided which lends itself somewhat to the conformation of the abdomen. Members 26 and 27 are preferably supplied at their contiguous vertical edges with cooperating fastening means 43 of any desired known make, such as zippers or hooks and eyes. Stays 28 are inserted in retaining casings attached to members 26 and- 27, and may consist of the well-known steels for whale bone, to provide a uniform contour to the device and retain the upper edge 29 in relative position to lower edge against the weight of the abdomen. Hooks 31 are; provided adjacent the upper edge to cooperate with eyelets on a bust retainer, when one is worn, and are intended to retain the bust retainer in proper and comfortable relation. The lower edges of members-26 and 27 are site edges of said panels being provided with one or more rows of eyelets,
.ary corset laces.
folded outwardly over and upward, being formed into hems 32 and 32 for slidably receiving adjusting inelastic tapes 33 and 34, which tapes are attached to members 26 and 27, as indicated at 35, and being free to slide within the hems 32 and 32, the ends passing out through open ends of hems 32 and 32 at their contiguous edges, thence coincidently cooperating with a slide buckle, adapted to receive the ends of both tapes, thus providing means for accentuating the cup form of the lower part of the support per se by adjustment of the tapes 33 and 34 in buckle 36. The outer vertical edges 37 and 38 are provided with eyelets 39 adapted to receive the custom- Inserts 40 are provided with eyelets 41 adapted to receive laces 42 at one vertical edge thereof, said laces 4L2 providingfadjustment of the support per se lon 'itudinall the opposite edges of inserts 0 eing provided with hooks adapted to cooperate with the eyelets in tapes 14.
It will be noted that the support per se may be readily attached to any corset by attaching to said corset tapes of eyelets as indicated at 14, and that the abdominal support may be removed by releasing the fastenlng means 43, and that the entire support may be detached from the corset by releasing the hooks 18 cooperating with eyelets on tapes 14, that additional adjustment can be secured by means of the plurality of tapes 14:, and that the lower portion of the support may be adjusted independently of the balance of the support. v
