` ELECTRICAL HEATER v`Filed Oct. 19, 1928 1NVNroR y Why s D Wim BY 4 TTORNE Y.
Patented Ang. 18, 1931 UNITED STATES rA'rENT orales The invention relates to electrical heaters and itis especially directed to devices for heating designated fparts of the human body, the species thereo herein described being 5 designed to heat the face.
It is frequently benelicial to apply heat to a selected part of the body to aid circulation or to open the pores of the skin 'and it is an advantage and more efectiva in many lo instances to have the heating appliance conform to the shape of the part to be heated. In facial treatments especially I h've found that a heating appliance that will cover the face and conforms to its contour isamost ediu cient.
The object of the invention is to provide a novel electrical heater that conforms to the contour of the part of the human body to be heated, the heat nerated the :g
20 pliance being distribute uniformly over said part the heater being applied with a maximum of ease.
Another object is to provide a heater in which the heating element is arranged in se novel manner.
One form of the invention is illustrated in4 the accompanyin drawin in which Figure 1 is a p an view o the heater in the form of a mask for ap lication to the human ao face; Fig. 2 a side e evation of the same; Fig. 3 a plan view of the heater with the front coverings removed and Fig. 4 a crosssection on line 4-4 on Fig. 3. In the illustrative embodiment of the invention the heater consistsof two sections 1 and 2 (Fig. 4) which are formed of suitable moldable material such as rubber ar papier mch, the latter material being shown in the illustrative heater. The sections 1 and 2 and a similar covering 4 is secured to the A suitable sanitary covering 3 is preferably secured -to the outer or rear face of the section 2 and a similar covering 4 is secured to the outer face of the section 1. Both oreither of said coverings 3 and 4 may be omitted.
The heating element o is preferabl a length of resistance wire covered with as tos, the o posite ends of the wire being exposed at t e rear edge of the mask or acces- 60 sible adjacent said edge for the connection therewith of a cord circuit. The resistance wire is secured to the section 2 in a redetermued manner as shown in Fi 3. outer winding 6 follows subetanti y around the rear'margin of the section and at a selected distance therefrom. It is then curved over the chin portion 7, the cheek 8z the temple 9 the forehead 10, and the opposite temple an cheek. By curving the e ement as shown there are two turns of the same on the forehead and on the cheeks and one on the chin and one under the chin.
Spacing members are provided on the section 2 to space it from the section 1. A simple and htmaterial for such members isA corruga pa r. A strip 11 of auch material is secure to the section 2 between the outer turn 6 of the heatingeglement and the edge of the section. Anot strip 12 is dis posed/between the turn 6 and the turn 18 on theY forehead rtionY and other strips 14 are disposed on e cheek portion between the turn 6 and the S-turns 15 on said cheek portions. v The sections 1 and 2 together with their coverings, when such areem lo ed are 1a secured together as by pa n e imat generated by the heating element is therefore generated at the desired points andisdistributedoverthefacethroughthe spl; heme miiihi righi am@ u l open or e e entire applce throu" which the user may breathe. The nose section 18 comfortably retbefrhos'e of he user so thatlthe inner su aceo eappiance ma snug engage the face and be readily held ziereon with one hand whether the user is standing, reclining orv rostrate.
t is evident that the apliance may 0 made in various shapes an that it may i 'more or less elastic to insure com lete contact with the surface to be heated. suitable means for spacing the two molded sections will suce. se What'I claim is: An electrical heater consist' of a mask having two molded walls of insu ating material molded to fit the human face corrugated strips between the walls to space the same and Vloc hand.
