OF OFFENBACH-ON-THE-MAIN, GERMANY BOOT AND SHOE Application filed December 12, 1929, Serial N This invention relates to improvements in boots and shoes and has for its object to provide a metatarsal support of the usual cap shape or padded form which canbe adjusted so as to lie exactly beneath the part of the metatarsal region intended to be supported. For this purpose the fastening means for detachably securing the metatarsal supporting plate to the inner sole is movable over a definite area of the surface of the support.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows in elevation partly in longitudinal section a shoe fitted with the new metatarsal support. Fig. 2 is a cross section Fig. 3 a plan view and Fig. 4: an inverted plan to enlarged scale. Fig. 5 is a plan showing only the inner sole and the metatarsal support.
Referring to the drawings, the curved meta tarsal support a which inclines downwards towards the heel consists of astrong capshaped curved plate of leather vulcanized fibre, rubber or the like. In a countersunk portion 6 on the flat lower side is mounted so as to be easily rotated a disc d provided with a central slot 6 which disc is adapted to be retained in position by a ring f inserted in the countersunk portion. A press-button fastener 9 held by its flange is adapted to slide in the slot 6. Inthe press-button is disposed I a spring a pressing a ball m into a notch or the like in the plate so that the plate is held in normal position. In the inner sole is located a spring socket member 0 with which the button 9 forms a press-button connection.
By turning the .disc, to facilitate which it may be provided with slots 2' adapted to be engaged by the fingers, and by displacing the male member 9 the support a can be moved from its normal position and its position in relation to the fixed socket member as well as the position of the supporting point in the metatarsal region (shown dotted in Fig. 5) can be changed.
In fitting the shoe the metatarsal support can thus be adjusted to the individual requirements of the foot. In order that it will be retained in the position found to be correct the rivets for fastening the ring serving to 0. 413,671, and in Germany December 13, 1928.
retain the rotating disc are provided with points 70 which project beyond the disc and which penetrate the inner sole.
. I claim,
1. A shoe having a metatarsal support, fastening means for detachably securing such support to the inner sole of the shoe, means permitting said fastening means to move within limits relative to the lower surface of the support, and means for supporting said fastening means, said fastening means movable on said supporting means in any direction.
2. A shoe having a metatarsal support, fastening means on the lower surface of such support for detachably securing such support to the inner sole of the shoe and means permitting said fastening means to move within limits relative to the lower surface of the support, said. fastening means comprising a disc rotatable in the support, said disc formed with able in said slot.
3. A shoe having a metatarsal support, fastening means on the lower surface of such support for detachably securing such support to the inner sole ofthe shoe while the inner sole is in position in the shoe, means permitting said fastening means to move within limits relative to the lower surface of the support and means for holding the fastening means in the middle of said support.
4:. A shoe having a metatarsal support, fastening means on the lower surface of such support for detachably securing such support to the inner sole, nieans permitting said fastening means to move within limits relative to the lower surface of the support, a support for said fastening means, said fastening meanscomprising a disc 'rotata'ble' in the support, said'disc formed with a slot, a fastener slidable in said slot, a ring holding said disc in position and rivets for securing said ring, said rivets formed with pointed ends adapted to project beyond said disc.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
