Description

Patented Aug. 4, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM DALTON ROBINSON, OF GHERRYVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA No Drawing.
The invention relates to a coating material adapted to be applied to leather rollers in cotton mills, and has for its object to provide a coating material, which will preserve the rollers and prevent the cracking of the to make one gallon.
leather.
coating and preservative for cotton mill roll- COATING FOR COTTON MILL ROLLS Application filed February 27, 1929. Serial No. 343,245.
red lead, two and one half ounces oil of origanum, two ounces of lamp black, two and one half ounces of glycerine, one and one half pounds of gelatine and sufficient acetic acid In testimony whereof he hereunto aflixes A further object is to provide a leather his signature.
ers comprising a mixture of dry red lead,
oil of origanum, lamp black, glycerine,
French gelatine and acetic acid. The proportions of the ingredients are preferably two and one half ounces of red lead; two and one half ounces of origanum, two ounces of lamp black; two and one half ounces of glycerine; one and one half pounds of French gelatine, and to which is added suflicient acetic acid to make one gallon of liquid material.
the gelatine.
It has been found that a coating material formed from the above ingredients when applied to leather rollers will positively preserve the rollers and prevent cracking or deterioration thereof. It has also been found that the material can be cheaply manufactured and sold, and will not deteriorate with a e or se arate.
The acetic acid acts as a solvent for the glycerine an holds it in solution, thereby making a compound which adheres to the rollers. The oil of origanum is placed in the solution as a drying agent, and the glycerine adds life to the compound and prevents cracking of the coating. The red lead and lamp black are suspended in the compound and adds toughness thereto so that the strands of cotton will roll on and off the rollers, and to add color, for instance the lamp black, which also acts as a filler and to aid lead in making grainy surface on rollers.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A leather coating material comprising a mixture of two and one half ounces of dry WILLIAM DALTON ROBINSON.
