Description

28, J. s vo RAZOR STROP STERILIZER vFiled Sept. 22, 1930 INVENTOR f A ORNEY Patented July 28,1931
PATENT, OFFICE JACK SAVOY, or GLENMORA, LOUISIANA RAZOR srnor s'rERILIzER Application filed September'22, 1930. Serial 1V0. 483,475.
p hang or secure the razor strop to be used at c some convenient point near the barbers chair, so that it could be readily accessible to the barber to strop his razor while he was shaving a customer;'no provision ever being made to sterilize therazor strop while it was so attached. The strop was used over and s over again to sharpen the razor used to shave several persons, without ever sterilizing the razor strop By this method of using the '20razor strop, the strop was most of the time exposed to the germ and dust laden atmosphereof the barber shop. The strop was also exposed to excessive moisture on damp I n I days, such exposure being injurious to a ra 2 zor strop. Y The objects of my invention are: first, to provide a practical and eflicient device to sterilize razor strops of the kind described; second, to provide a razor strop sterilizer having means to secure or anchor the strop while the strop is being used and also provided with means to automatically return the strop, after use, to the sterilizing chamber ofthe sterilizer, where the strop may be sterilized without loss of time on the part of ,the'operator; third, to provide in a sterilizer means adapted to serve as a sanitary container in which the razor strop may be protected, when the strop is not in use, from exposure to dust, disease germs and excessively damp atmosphere; fourth, to provide a novelly constructed apparatus of this class, which is simple economical of construction, durable, practical, easily installed for use, andindispensable to the art of sanitary barbering.
With these and other objects in View, as will appear hereinafter, mv invention consistsof certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the ap} pended claims, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings and to the characf-l ters of reference thereon. which form a part of this specification, in whichz -Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of a steril 'izer. embodying my inventionpshowing the sterilizer when the razor strop is being'ster ilized. I
Figure '2 is aperspective view of the same, showing the sterilizer when the razor strop is being held ready for use. c g Y Figure 3is a side View of Figure 1, partially in section, showing details of. construction. V Figure 4 is a front viewof Figure 1, partially in section, showing further details .of
construction.
1 Fignre 5 isa sectional-view of a portion of the sterilizer, showing positions bf cer tain parts when the strop is extended for use. Like characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the sev- I eral views, of the drawings. My invention comprises a hollow, case 1, preferably cylindrical in shape and made of metal. The case is secured to a barbers cabi net or other suitable support by means of screws and the lugs 52. The chamber 3 serves as the sterilizing chamber. Secured to the case 1 is a detachable receptacle 1, mad e pref erably of glass, for the purpose of holding suitable and necessary sterilizing chemicals. The opening in the receptacle 4 is in communication with the chamber 3, so as to admit the vapors from the sterilizing chemicals to enter the chamber 3. Inside of the case lisa revolubly mounted drum 5, made preferably of metal. At each end of the drum is fixed a disc .6. The drum 5 is adapted to revolve around the stationary shaft 7.; The ends of the shaft 7 are fixed to the case 1. Positioned around the shaft 7 is a helical spring '8. One end of thespring 8 is secured to the shaft 7, and the other end is secured to the drum 5, so that when the drum 5 isrevolved a tension isprodn ced on the spring 8. The opening 9 is to admitthe strop which is to be sterilized and used in conjunction with the sterilizer. 100
The snap ring 1 is secured to the drum and is used to attach the razor strop, The razor strop 11 is positioned 1n the sterilizer as shown in Figure 3, having the strop secured to the snap ring 10. The drum 5 1s of such a dimension that the outside surface of it receives nearly the entire length of the strop at asingle'winding ofthe strop around the drum. 7 vWhen it is desired to usethe strop for stropping a razor, the 'strop is' manually:
pulled outward as shown in Figure2. This pulling of the strop causes the drum 5 to re:
I the strop assumingthe position shown in' Figuresl and 3'. V'The stop-12'pr'events the winding action of the" drum and spring to I pnlithe entire length of the'strop into the sterilizer chamber. The stopi12 has recess.
v init to admit the connecting link of the strop so that the drum can be revolved'freely inside'the' case 1 during the' winding oi the strop around the dru'm; The stop 12 is in 1 close proximity totheinside wall of the case I, so that when'the stopicomes in contact with 4 tion i'sa time saver and anindispensable dev the strop as shown in Figure 3the drum cannot revolve further. The drum 5 is made of perforatedmetahso as to admit the sterilizing vapors to the surface of the strop which is in contact with the drum, The openings 13 admit the sterilizing vapors to the inside of thedrum i t i It is obvious from the foregoing,description that the sterilizer embodying my inven-.
vice-for perfect sanitation in the use of a razor strop, I When the strop'is'not in use, 1t1s being exposed to the steriliz ng vapors in thesterilizing chamber. -Much valuable time is saved; because 1t is unnecessary to detach I claim is:
' the raz-or'strop'i-romrthe sterilizer Wl18ILOI18 desires to use the strop. \Vhen the strop is not-1n use the opening 9 is practically closed with the protruding end oithe razor strop,
as shownin gure 1, thus avoiding excessive escape of the sterilizing vapors fr-om'the ster lliZGI. .It is to be understood that it is not necessary to sterilize the entire length of the strop. It is only necessary'to sterilize that portion of the strop which contacts with the razor. i
It is to be understood that the formof my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred embodiment of the same and thatvarious'changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts, maybe resorted to, which do not depart vfrom the spirit-of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim 7 Having thus described my invention, what In a razor strop sterilizer, the'combination of a sterilizing case, means to secure the said case to a supporting element, a sterilizing medium container detachably secured to said case and in communication with the inside of said case, an opening in the said case through which to admit a razor strop into the said case,a revolubly mounteddrum inside of said case, said drum being adapted to wind upon it a razor strop, a spring for rotating said drumto wind up the razor strop, a stop mounted on the said drum and adapted to contacttherazor strop and to stop the rotating of said drum at such a point to prevent the winding oi the entire length of the razor strop and so as to leave the portion ofthe' razor strop having the hand hold protruding through the opening in the said case. In testimony whereof'I aiiix'my signature;
