My invention relates to improvements in shirt collars, and refers particularly tosoft collarseither attached to the shirt, or detachable from the shirt.

5` One obj ect of my invention is the provision of means located in the ends of the collar which will act to stilien and support the collar at the ends and cause the collar to hold up under all conditions.

Another object of my invention is the provision of means located in the ends of the collar which will increase the wear and durability of the collar and lend a more ornamental and attractive appearance to the col- 151eri Another object of my invention is the provision of a shirt collar having improvements which will add greatly to the appearance of the collar will not add much to the cost of 20 production, and thus recommend the collar to the user.`

With these objects in view my invention consists of a shirt collar embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially asdescribed and claimed and as shown in the accompanying` drawings, in which:

ofthe collar, all of which in general appearance are as usual and common, and my invention is located in the ends 5, of the collar. The collar is shown with pointed ends, but the ends may be pointed,`tapered or rounded as found desirable, and in the ends are arranged the pocket or envelope 6, which is made from the blank 7 which when folded as shown in Figures 4 and 5, makes a pocket which shapes to lit the ends of the collar and be secured by the confining edges 8, and the stitches 9, this construction as shown in Figure 5, making four layers of material which in itself provides a strong, durable stifening means, but in addition to the layers of the collar and pocket, I use the strip l0, of suitable stilfening material, such as Celluloid or like material, which is inserted in the slit 1l, of the collar and the registering slit 12, of the pocket, and which strip when inserted is entirely enclosed by the pocket and assumes the position shown in dotted lines in Figures 2 and 4, which is at the proper incline to effect the entire stiffening of the ends of the collar.

The advantages of my invention will be fully understood and appreciated by the trade and the public and it will be apparent ,I that my improvements while not adding much to the cost of the collar will greatly enhance the durability, appearance and desirability of the collar.

I claim:

1. A shirt collar having a pocket or envelope enclosed in the ends of the outer flap between the outer and inner layers of material, said pocket having an opening at its upper edge and said pocket being shaped to lit and occupy the entire space in the ends and points of said collar and having its inner edge disposed in the forward portion of the collar.

2. A shirt collar having a pocket or envelope enclosed in the ends of the outer flap between ythe outer and inner layers of material, said pocket having an opening at its upper edge and said pocket being shaped to fit and occupy the entire space in the ends and points of said collar and having its inner edge disposed in the forward portion of the ioo l collar, and a stifening strip adapted to enter the opening at the upper edge of the collar and to act to form a stifening means for the entire area of said pocket.

3. A shirt collar having a pocket or en- Velope enclosed in the ends of the outer ap between the outer and inner layers of material, said pocket being secured in place by the stitching of said outer Hap and havingl an opening at its upper edge and seid pocket being shaped to t and occupy the entire space in the ends and points of the collar and having its inner edge disposed in the forward portion of the collar, and a Sti'ening lstrip adapted to enter said openingv at the upper edge of said pocket and serve to stifen the entire zrreeJ of the pocket.
