Description

A. LHRs.
-COCKS AND FAUCETS. No.181,584=. Patented Aug.z9,1875.
UNITED STATES PATENT CDEEICEo ADOLPE Lunas, oENEvv YORK, N.,Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN COCKS AND FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l S 1.584., dated August 29, 1876; application led July 19, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH LUHRs, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Beer-Faucet, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section, partly in side View, ot' my improved beerfaueet. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in all the gures.
This invention relates to an improvement in ordinary beer-faucets, whereby they are rendered far more effective than they were before.
The invention consists in providing a faucet which has the usual longitudinal bore, with an additional discharge-opening at the lower side, so that With my improved faucet a larger proportion of liquor can be Withdrawn from a barrel than with the ordinary faucet.
In the drawing, the letter A represents the faucet of ordinary style, made With a longitudinal bore, a, which is open at the inner end, to communicate With the liquid within the barrel. This faucet I provide with an aperture, b, equal in area to the discharge-aperture, and arranged to be on a line with the inner face met' the barrel-head. This aperture Will draw from the barrel to the line c, (shown in Fig. 1,) Where otherwise the faucet Would only dra-W to the line d, and if the barrel is tilted its entire contents can be Withdrawn through the aperture b.
Beer-faucets as now made with longitudinal bore cannot possibly Withdraw all the contents ofa barrel or cask, yet the longitudinal bore open at the end is also necessary to keep the beer from foaming through the fau- Cet.
I claim as my inventionp The faucet described, having a stein With a longitudinal bore, a, open at the inner end, and an aperture, b, at the under side, equal in area to the outlet, and arranged to afford a passage for the iiuid from the barrel to the bore a on a line with the inner faoe x of the barrel-head, as set forth.
The foregoing description of my invention signed by me this 17th day of July, 1876.
ADOLPH LUHRS.
