Description

(No Model.)
B. MORERE.
FAUGET.
No. 388,860. Patented Mar. 30, 1886.
WITNESSES:
n a /adw By ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIAGIM MORERE, OF NEWV ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
FAUCET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,860, dated March 30, 1886.
Application filed August 22, 1885. Serial No. 175,111. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIAOIM MORIQRE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faucets, of which the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
This invention consists in the combination, in a liquid-discharge faucet, of a faucet pipe or shell having an airchamber located between the inner end and plug-socket thereof, a vent tube or passage connecting the upper parts of same, and a plug provided with an ordinary way or port and a groove or channel, the latter for the purpose of admitting air to the air-chamber at such times as the faucet is opened, and thereby insure a steady outflow of liquid from same, without impairing the quality of the liquid contained within the cask or other vessel to which the faucet is applied by allowing the air to come in contact there with.
On the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved faucet. Fig. 2 is a verticallongitudinal section of same, and Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing the plug with groove therein.
The faucet body or shell is designated by the letter A, the plug-socket is marked B, and the air'chamber O. The latter is located about midway between the plug-socket and the inner end of the faucet pipe or shell.
The plug-socket B is provided immediately above its liquid-passage and at the side next the air-chamber with arecess, d, which is connected with the air-chamber by a vent tube or passage, E, and the plug is provided above one end of its liquid passageway with a vertical groove, f, one end of which is made to extend above the plugsocket, while the other end is carried sufficiently low to be brought opposite the recess (I when turned in that direction, and thus open a free passage for the supply of air to the air-chamber as rapidly as the same may be withdrawn therefrom by the outflow of liquid.
On turning the plug to close the liquid passage-way, the groove therein is moved away from the recess 01 and its communicating vent tube or passage E, which cuts off the supply of air to the air-chamber, thus insuring the keeping of theliquid within the cask in a better state of preservation than if the air were allowed to enter and mingle with the same.
Having described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A liquid-faucet provided with an airchamher, a vent tube or passage connecting said chamber with the p1ug-socket, as described, and a plug provided above one end of its passage-way with a vertical groove of sufficient length to extend above the plug-socket and to communicate with the vent-tube at such times as desired, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELIAGIM MoEERE.
