Application filed February 14, 1930. Serial No. 428,406.
This invention relates wan attachment into aneck 5 provided with an outwardly for soda straws and has for its primary obofi'set shoulder forming portion 6' andyteiject to provide, in a manner as hereinafter rninating in a fia-redsleeve 7 adapted for the set forth, a device of this character which reception of the lower end portion of the 5 will prevent a liquid which has been drawn soda straw 8. terial to be destroyed after the same has been used once.
The valve 9 may be in the form of a candy ball if it is so desired. This invention also contemplates a check valve constructed in accordance with this invention formed as an integral part of the soda straw instead of being detachable and a separate part therefrom.
While the invention has herein been described for use in association with soda straws, it is understood that the same may be utilized for any purpose for which it may be found adapted such as for use in pipettes.
It is believed that the many advantages of a soda straw attachment constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be. understood that changes in the details of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is 1. An attachment for soda straws of the character described comprising a metallic tapered valve casing, an integral inlet neck on one end of the valve casing, said neck being of less diameter than said casing and having one end formed to provide a valve seat, a ball check valve loosely disposed for movement in the casing and engageable on the seat in a manner to control the passage through the inlet neck, and an integral flared sleeve on the other end of the casing for the reception of the soda straw for detachably mounting the valve casing thereon.
2. An attachment for soda straws of the character described comprising a valve casing, said valve casing being provided with a liquid inlet on one end, a ball check valve loosely disposed in the'easing and adapted to control the inlet passage, a sleeve formed integrally on the opposite. end of the casing for the reception of the soda straw for mounting the casing thereon in communication therewith and integral abutments struck inwardly from the side walls of the casing for engagement with the ball check valve in a manner to limit the upward movement of the same in the casing.
3. An attachment for soda straws of the character described comprising a valve casing having a tapered body portion, an integral flared sleeve extending from the tapered body portion for slidably receiving one end of the soda straw for mounting the valve casing thereon in communication therewith, an annular shoulder on the inner end of the sleeve for engagement with the end of the soda straw, said shoulder constituting a stop therefor, integral abutments struck inwardly from thetapered upper portion of the valve body for engagement with the ball valve in a manner to limit the upward movement of the same in the casing, a valve seat in the opposite end of the casing for the reception of the ball valve and an inlet neck extending from the casing and communicating therewith.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
