In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the coating solution is applied to the stack of gaskets, such as by a dipping operation, while said gasketsare held tightly together in stacked relation, with the result that none of the coating solution flows between gaskets. I
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3, the gaskets 10a are loosely held in stacked relation during the dipping operation to permit the coating solution to freely flow between gaskets, as at 15. As the result, all surfaces of each gasket are coated with the moisture-proof solution, with absolute protection from climatic changes for each individual gasket, after its removal from the stack, as well as before. i
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3 and in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, the gaskets 10a are'o-f generally square shape, with centrally disposed circular openings 18 and bolt-receiving corner openings 20. The sealing coating, 14a in each embodiment, completely encloses the stack of gaskets,just as it does in the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2.
The embodiment of Fig. 3 and the embodie ment of Figs. 4, 5 and 6 also each. include means for providing, and exposing when desired, a longitudinally disposed uncoated porti on of the stack, said means being more fully illustrated in the embodiment of Figs. 4, 5
and 6. Said means comprises a strip 25of paper or the like longitudinally arranged or positioned along one corner of the stack and" preferably coextensive in length therewith. Said. strip is arranged in place before the stack is dipped into the coating solution, so
that the gasket portions beneath said strip are.
uncoated. By removing said strip, or a por tion thereof as in Figs. 5 and 6,sa1d uncoated gasket portions are exposed and separationof gaskets is thereby rendered quick and easy.
For convenience and-greater accuracy in gauging or measuring off. the number of gaskets desired, suitable markers 30 are distributed through out the stack at any desired spacing or intervals,-say at intervals of twentyfive or fifty. Said dividing markers maybe rendered visible or conspicuous by being of contrasting coloror otherwise, as will be readily understood. I
If desired, the package. of gasketsmaybe provided at its ends with suitable end mem'-' bers, of paper or the like and corresponding in size and shape to the gaskets. The outer surfaces of these end members may bear'a-ny desired indicia or advertising legends and may be provided, with or be free from the sealing coating, depending upon Whether said end surfaces are covered or uncovered when the stack is immersed in the sealing or coating material.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a stack of gaskets made of material which varies laterally in size in accordance with climatic conditions, a strip longitudinally arranged along .the side of said .stack, said stack having its side and said strip coated with a moisture-proof material which not only protects thegaskets-of said stack from climatic changes but also maintains said gaskets in said stacked relation, said strip providing, upon its removah a. longitudinal uncoated portion of the stack which enables the gaskets to be more readily separated.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a stack of gaskets made of non-metallic material which varies in cross dimension in accordance ance. with climatic conditions, the gaskets of i said stack being of the same shape and of the same c'rossdlmenslons and each having a through opening,said gaskets being maintained-in; aligned'stacked relation with said openings in alignment bya moisture proof coating. secured tothe side surfaces of said .stackand to the stack surfaces surrounding saida'ligned openings, saidcoating not only maintaining said: gaskets in such aligned stacked relation but also protecting said gasketsrfromnsize variation in response to climatic changes.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a stack ofgaskets made of non-metallic material whichvaries in cross dimension in accordance with climatic conditions, the gaskets of said .stack being of the same shape and of the same crossdimensions and each having a through opening and a through bolt-receiving aperture, said gaskets being maintained. 1n aligned; stacked relation with said openings in alignmentand said apertures in alignment by a moisture proof coating secured to the sidesurfaces of said stack and to thestack, surfaces around said aligned openings and said aligned apertures, said coating notonly maintaining said gaskets in such aligned, stacked'relation, but also protecting said gaskets from size variation in response to; climatic changes.
