Description

Patented June; 16 i931? JESSE c. HAYES, or xirrsivnine, rnNnsYLvnma Born .anonon' Application filed May 26,
This invention relates to certainnew and novel improvements in devices for securing one end of a rope to a' support such as a clothes line rope to a post or the like, the device being 5 termed, for the sake of convenience, a rope anchor.
i The primary object of this invention is to provide a device wherebya rope may be con veniently secured to a support or other suit- 19 able structure whereby the rope may be suitably anchored to the support, the same being especially adaptable for clothes lines, or for any other suitable purpose.-
Other objects and advantages of the inven- 15 tion willbecome apparent, duringa study of the following descriptiomtaken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 1s a front elevational View of my I improved device illustrating jits manner of 23 use.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof. Fig. 3'is atop plan view of the device. Myimproved attaching or anchoring device is preferably formed from a single strand of wire 5 havingend portions 6 and 7 respectively bent inwardly toward one another, parallel with the intermediate portion of the wire to provide at the top and bottom of the device substantially U-shaped recesses through which theshanks ofa nail or other suitable fastening element F -may be passed and driveninto a suitable support S for securing the device in fixed position on the sup port.
One oftheend portions 6 merges into a horizontal laterally disposed extension 7 which inturn is bent inwardly upon itself to" provide an open ended loop portion 8. -The A free end of the loop terminates in a downwardly and inwardly extending portion 9 which in turn is bent upwardly as at 10 to provide a substantially V-shaped rope receiving part. i
The
l and at said ofiset is bent downwardly to provide a hook or substantially inverted J- shaped rope receiving portion 12.
p In actual practice, a portion of the'rope may be engaged in the, U-sha ped loop portion 8, the ropethenpassed downwardly to end 7 may be bent outwardlyor offset 1930. Serial no. 455,840.
be received in the hook or inverted V-shaped end 12, after which the rope isthen passed upwardly to be received in the V-shaped or hook like extension 10, the rope then being pulled as for example, on a horizontal plane as suggested in Fig. 2to be secured at its [opposite end in a suitable manner to a. similar device as that just described, or toany other device whereby the free portion of the rope may betautened or stretched as in the manner'of providing a clothes line. 1 From the foregoing, it is also apparen that my device may be used in conjunction with the ropes'of awnings for securing the three portions of the awnings to the door 'jamb or the like inlieu of the devices now.
in use.
It is thought that from the foregoing des cription, the construction, use, advantages andutility of a device of this character will be had by those skilled in the art without a. more detailed description.
Even though I have scribed the preferred embodiment of my invention,'it is to be understood that-the same is susceptible tochanges fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1-"- v 1. In a deviceof the character described, an anchoring member formed from a single strand of wirelooped at itsopp'osite ends the device may be secured to a support, one of said ends intermediate its end and the herein shown and deto accommodate retaining elements whereby adjacent looped portion merging into a hor- *izontally disposed open ended loop portion in turn merging into a vertically disposed rope receiving hook, and the other of said ends merging into an inverted V shaped rope receiving hook portion.
2. In anan'choring device of the class del scribed, a substantially elongated split loop,- like member formed from a single strand of wire, said member at one end thereof, merginginto an inverted V-shaped rope receiving hook, said member at its opposite end merging into a lateral extension in turn merging into a substantially U-shaped rope I receiving loop, one leg of said 100p being bent at right angles to extend parallel with the first-mentioned rope receiving hook portion, said one leg in turn merging into a I substantially V-shaped rope receiving hook.
3. In an anchoring device of the character described, a substantially looped member, provided adjacent each end thereof with a substantially V-shaped receiving hook, said L hooks extending reversely with respect to one another, and said loop member adjacent one of said hooks being provided With a lateral substantially U-shaped rope receiving loop.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JESSE C. HAYES.
