Patented June 9, 1931 um'rsn STATES can; A. WENDT, or TULSA, OKLAHOMA GAS BURNER Application filed Fehruary 6,1929. serial No. 337,883.
The object of this invention is to provide a burner adapted for use in power and heating plants of various kinds, including hot air furnaces. I
A further object is to provide a unit comprising a plurality of gas burners assembled as a single casting having air and fuel feeding devices associated therewith, and to provide for assembling a plurality of units as a section or the like for installation in a fire box.
A further object is to provide particular air and fuel heating means for individual.
may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from vention.
in the drawings i c Figure 1 is a plan view of a section comprising a plurality of units of the type disclosed in'Figure 2. 1
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section thru a single unit, the section being on line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a section'on line 83 of Figure 2.
Figure 4: is a section on line 4t of Figure 2.
The individual burners include the substantially vertical tubular portions 10, having flared and open lower ends 11, the portions 10 being connected, in the structure of'a single unit, by webs 12 which may have transverse openings 13 therein. 7
The elements 10 merge into proper flared portions 14 providing chambers 15, and the walls of portions 14 merge into an upper grid or the likeconstituting a top and designated 16, This top has slots 17 therein adapted to provide flames in parallel relation when the gas is ignited. The tops 16 0f the burners the spirit'of the in-v have lower curved surfaces, or concave surfaces, the upper portions being convex, and the central parts or portions are directly over the fuel feeding ports referred to below, so that the gas mixture is deflected from the surface at 18' and thejets pass thru the slots17. Considerable current is produced within the individual burners, due to the jet action, and to .the quantity of air admitted thru the openingsll within the flared portions 11.
A header or the like designated 20 provides for admitting fuel to a pipe or manifold 21 to which it iswelded or otherwise connected, the elements 20 and 21 being in communication thru opening or large port 22. The individual ports of the burners 10 are designated 24', and are in substantial alignment with the central portions of the elements of the burnertops. The pipe 21 is plugged at opposite ends as indicated at the right of Figure 2, where; the closing devices are designated 25, being securedby means of transverse pins 26 passing thru the structure 27 forming part of the casting of the complete unit;
The units thus provided may be assembled as shown in Figure 1 to produce a fire box section wherein the individual units each ex- .tendgperpendicular with reference to the header 20, being su tably connected thereto,
as before indicated.
Having described the invention, I cla1m:
1. A gas burning unit, comprising a plurality of individual burners and webs intev grally connected, said burners includlng in- I dependent air supply-means, sald unit 1ncluding a fuel feeding manifold having ports substantially. aligned with: the vertical axes of the burners, closures for the manifold, and
a device securing each closure to the manifold and to the web structure of the unit, and passing through each of these members, and means for connecting a plurality of units thus formed, to provide a fire box section.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CARL A. WENDT.
