Description

June 9, 1931. c. .A. BRUNING 1,809,018
ADJUSTABLE BRACKET Filed Dec. 13, 1925 A itor ney Patented June 9, 1931 UNITED STATES CLARENCE A. BRUNING, OF CQLFAX, WASHINGTON- ADJUSTABLE BRACKET Application filed December 13, 1929. Serial No. 413,767.
My present invention relates to improvements in adjustable brackets especially adapted for use in connection with display racks of the type secured under the Bruning Patent Number 1,7 31,610 dated October 15, 1929, but of course it is adapted for use on other display racks of similar construction.
In the performance of its functions the device of my invention is intended to support and maintain baskets potted flowers, or other similar articles upon a surface maintained parallel to the floor and is carried upon a rack which may be disposed at varying angles from the perpendicular.
Another object of my invention is to provide an adjustable bracket which may readily and rapidly be attached to the display rack in order that it may expedite the erection of a display.
In carrying out my invention I employ a somewhat circular frame to which is attached supporting members or rods to form a level platform, said frame having hooks formed integral therewith. Upon a cross piece which ties the frame together is attached an adjusting feature of my invention.
Because of the minimum number of parts utilized and of the simplicity both in construction and adaption for use, the device of my invention may be manufactured in quantities at comparatively low cost of production, and manipulated with facility.
The invention consists of certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts for accomplishing the above set purposes as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are arranged and com bined according to the best mode that I have thus far devised for the practical application of my invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying my invention with a rack to which it may be adapted indicated by dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of a display rack with the device of my invention attached thereto and the rack disposed at an angle from the perpendicular.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a display rack with the device of my invention attached thereto and the rack disposed at a greater angle from the perpendicular than in Fig ure 2.
In the preferred form of my invention as illustrated in the drawings I utilize a circular frame 11 which may be constructed of metal or other suitable material. At 12 the ends are bent upward to form hooks 13 and 13 which engage a horizontal cross piece of the display rack as 14.
Across bar 18 is utilized to tie the two ends of the frame 11 together and is fastened by welding or other suitable means to the frame at the bends which occur at 12 when the hook members 13 and 13 are formed.
Supporting members or rods 15, 16, and 17 are fastened to the circular frame 11 and also to the cross bar 18 with suitable spacing to act as a proper support for the purpose in mind. I
To the cross piece 18 is also suitably secured the adjusting feature of my invention which may be a wire 19 forming a series of stepped notches 21 securely fastened to the cross piece 18. j r
Thefloral display racks upon which I primarily intend to use my adjustable display bracket are usually constructed of cross frame members composed of light metal bars, and these racks are supported by a hinged leg'22 so that the rack is held at any angle at which the display will be most effective, and since this angle is variable it is necessary in providing a supporting bracket, and that the bracket will be adaptable to the various angular adjustments of the display rack so that it may support a vase of flowers, a pot or a similar object from a horizontal position.
To this means I have provided the device as disclosed above so that by engaging the hooks 13 and 13 over any one of the horizontal cross wires 14 of the rack I am able to bring the desired step or notch of the member 19 into engagement with any one of the perpendicular members of the rack to adjust my bracket to the horizontal position, it of course being understood that if the rack is standing substantially perpendicular the notch farthest away from the bar 18 will be utilized and if the rack is set at an extreme angle the notch nearest the bar 18 will be utilized.
Thus in setting up a floral display which must be done rapidly it is possible to place my bracket in adjustment by hooking onto the rack and moving it to engage the proper notch or step of the supporting member 19.
If necessary a cross supporting bar 23 may be secured to the frame to further increase the strength of my bracket.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an adjustable bracket of the character described, a frame, the ends of the frame bent at an angle and terminating in hooks, a crdss tie, bracket supporting members secured to the cross tie and to the frame, and a stepped adjusting member on said cross tie for maintaining the bracket in a horizontal position.
2. In an adjustable bracket of the character described, comprising a circular frame, supporting members thereon, the ends of said frame formed into upstandin hooks, a cross piece tying the ends of the Frame together, and selective means carried thereon for adjusting the bracket in a horizontal position.
3. In an adjustable bracket of the character described, a circular frame, a cross tie and supporting members secured to the frame and the cross tie, bent ends of the frame terminating in hooks, and selective means on the cross tie (to-operative therewith to adjust the bracket in a horizontal position.
4. An adjustable bracket comprising an edge wire having its spaced ends bent upwardly and terminating in supporting hooks adapted to engage over a horizontally disposed support, a horizontal cross tie connecting the spaced ends (if said wire, and a stepped brace rigid with the cross tie and located below the hooks for engagement against an upright support.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLARENCE A. BRUN'ING.
