In Figs. 9-11 the adjusting plate 22 is considerably shorter than the plate 22, theslides 27 being at the extreme end of the membeiy and not, asin'Figs'. 68, arranged between the boss 25 and the set screws 26. The boss 25 and set-screws26 being in these figures on the same side oft-he slide, and but a single fastening bolt 23 is used for fas tening the plate to the lug.

In the diagram Fig. 12 each removable flask member has the adjusting plates directly opposite, as indicated by lines 29 and 30, the cope engaging directly opposite guide pins 15 and 15 fwhile thepattern plate is guided by the other pair of directly opposite pins 15 and 15", or vice versa. 7 One (or both) pattern plate lugs 19, Fig. 1, is preferably provided with a bevel 31 for attachment of a vibrator or 'tapping device, so thatthe pattern can be'vibra'ted and the vibration thereof not materially affect the cope guide pin while the Tcopefis being removed, so that there will be considerable relative movement between the said mold portion on the cope and thepattern during the removal of thegcope The vibrations of the pattern'plate are so rapid that the pattern is always clearxof the sand in-the cope, which is desirablecin the top mold portion so as to make the pattern quite loose of the sand supported on the sand strips on the'cope while the cope is being removed. Any strain put on 'the cope guide pins is not communicated to the pattern plate pins, thereby avoiding any distortion by the pattern on the pattern plate, of th'e'sand in the drag. j Q 1 By my invention, besides the above-named advantage, I obtain considerable improvement of the sand molds and flask structure, for the reason that'the adjusting plates are universally adjustable for each pin to coincide with the axes-of their respective pins by the set screws 26, and for'wear by loosing bolts 21, moving the plates against their pins, and re clamping' the plates.

In those cases where one part of Ilil'IG'PfLtternrequires that the lift shall not be vertical the pins for that removable flask member that carries the corresponding mold can be placed at the required angle. Thisverymaterially reduces the cost of. patterns. It is now the practice, insuch cases,.to make those parts of the pattern loose from the main pattern or from the pattern plate and tempor'arily connect them thereto bydowels, and the loose portion remains'in the sand in the 'removable member,to besubsequently carefullyremovedby the molder. .7 7
All these advantages result in-a lesser percentage of'ilnperfect sandmolds, and greatly reduce the timerequired to make the molds.

3. In a molders flask, an adjusting plate having a slide thereon for fitting against a guide pin, and means to secure the plate to the lug on a flask member, said plate being adj ustable in all directions transversely in relation to the pin.

In a molders flask, an adjusting plate having a slide thereon less than a semi-circle in cross section, a boss on the underside of the plate, and two adjusting screws in the plate, said boss and screws disposed in a tri angle to furnish'a three point support for the plate, and means to fasten the plate to the lug of a flask member.
5. A molders flask, comprising a drag, a pin supporting lug at each end of the flask and a group of guide pins in each lug, a plurality of removable flask members superposed on the drag, each member having perforated lugs through which the groups of pins loosely pass, there being as many pins in a group as there are removable members, each member cooperating with a pin of each group, and adjustable slides mounted on the lugs of the removable members to closely fit and partially surround the pins. p
6. In a molders flask, an adjusting plate having a slide thereon for fitting against a guide pin, and means to secure the plate to the lug on a flask member, said plate being adjustable in all directions transversely in relation to the pin and tilt'ably adjustable whereby its pin-engaging end may be positioned at various inclinations according to the inclination of the pin.
