lThis invention relates to a pumping device and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,
a device of such character which is constructed in a manner to lighten the load on a lift pump whereby the efficiency of the latter may be increased, and the cost of operating the same decreased.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pumping device of the character aforesaid which includes a crank driven walking beam equipped with a counter weight for balancing the load being lifted from a well. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawings are to be taken asillustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pumping device in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan thereof.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a well casing having a sucker rod 2 depending thereinto. Adjacent the casing 1 is a motor shown conventionally at 3 and having a pulley 4 mounted on and driven by the shaft 5 of the motor. Driven by the pulley 4 is a belt 6 which extends over a relatively'large pulley 7 fixedly mounted on a shaft 8 journaled in a frame 9 mounted on suitable supports 10. Fixedly mounted on the shaft 8 is a relatively small pulley 11 which drives a belt 12 extending over arelatively large pulley 13" fixedly mounted on a shaft 14 journaled in the frame 9. The frame 9 consists of a pair of side members 1 1 connected adjacent their ends by means of a pair of cross members 15, and further connected by means of a plurality of 1930. Serial No. 444,526.
Fixedly mounted on one end of the shaft 14 is a crank 18 to the outer end of which is pivotally connected the lower end of a link 19. Secured to the link 19 is a bracket 20 which has an outwardly offset portion 21 arranged in spaced relation to an upper end portion of the link 19. Pivotally secured be tween the offset portion 21 and upper end of the link 19, by means of a suitable bolt 22, is one end of a walking beam 23, the opposite end of which is provided with a pair of spaced bars 2st pivotally connected to the upper end of the sucker rod 2. The walking beam 23'is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends within the bifurcated upper end 25 of a support 26 projecting upwardly from one of the side members 1 1 of the frame 9. Se-
cured to the link 19 by means of a pair of U-shaped straps 27 is a counter weight 28 which exerts a downward force on one end. of the walking beam 23 in order to offset the weight of the load being lifted from the casing 1 by the sucker rod 2. The support 26 which provides the fulcrum for the walking beam 23 is in closer proximity to the sucker rod 2 than to the link 19.
In the operation of the device a minimum of power is required to oscillate the walking beam 23, owing to the location of the fulcrum therefor, and to the counter weight 28 supported from the longer end portion thereof. The arrangement of the pulleys 1, 7, 11 and 13 provides a multiplying ratio between the shafts 5 and 1 1, and the crank 18 fixedly connected with the shaft 14; and pivotally connected with the link 19 provides for a complete cycle of oscillating movement of the walking beam 23 once during each revolution of the shaft 1 1.
It is thought that the many advantages of a pumping device in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to,
so long as such changes fall of the invention as defined claims.
What I claim is:
1. A pumping device comprising, a Walk ing beam adapted to be pivotally connected at one end with a sucker rod, a rotatable shaft, a crank on said shaft, a link having one end pivotally connected to said crank, a bracket having one end secured to said link and further having its opposite end ofiset and arranged in spaced parallel relation to said link, said walking beam having its opposite end extending between and pivotally c0nnected with the offset end of the bracket and the opposite end of said link, and a counter Weight having the end portions of a pair of U-bolts secured thereto, said U-bolts having their central portions extending around said link, said U-bolts being disposed on opposite sides of the connection between the bracket and link.
2. A pumping device comprising, a walking beam adapted to be pivotally connected at one end with a sucker rod, a rotatable shaft, a crank on said shaft, a link having one end pivotally connected to said crank, a bracket having one end secured to said link and further having its opposite end offset and arranged in spaced, parallel relation to said link, said walking beam having its opposite end extending between and pivotally conneoted with the offset end of the bracket and the opposite end of said link, and a counter weight having the end portions of a U-bolt secured thereto, said U-bolt having its central portion extending around said link between the latter and the ofl'set end of the bracket.
